I’ve only been at this disgusting habit:-) for a few months and have until now not found a way to sniff the very dry powdery snuffs without getting a throat and sinus full of snuff. I’ve only been able to take them by physically shoving the stuff in there with a wet pinch or on the end of my thumb. This works ok but is not optimal. But a couple of days ago I came up with this idea. I filled one of my tobacco jars half full of water and set a small glass therein. Then I took the top off a ten g. tin of Crumbs of Comfort and set the tin down on the base of the glass and put the air-tight top on overnight. The next day the powdery snuff had become very moist and I found I was then able to sniff up a good pinch, having the baccy stay in my nose and out of the undesirable locations. Works brilliantly, just wanted to pass it on in case someone else finds it useful.
There are lots of rehydration methods. By the way I don’t think that crumbs of comfort is considered a drier snuff. At least it hasn’t been in my experience at least. Great snuff though.
Yes, as bob said, CoC isn’t terribly dry. I would love to offer you a pinch of Rooster or HDT, because the first time someone takes those (I was no exception), the reaction to oversniffing them is usually hilarious. And as some advice, you may want to avoid Dholakia White for the time being.
I’m thinking my CoC was perhaps sat on the retailer’s shelf for a long time before it came to me because it was as dry as the Mojave on a hot day and as fine as any powder of any kind I’ve ever seen. Sure tastes great though and works good now.
Living in the high desert as I do, bone dry snuff is a fact of life. Fortunately I started out many years ago with Levi Garret, and prefer Honest and a whole slew of HDT’s (might as well start there 'cause that’s how it all ends up.) Some takes to rehydration some doesn’t, CoC as said shouldn’t be all that dry when you open the tin. Anyhow, trick I learned from a fellow smarter than me a few years ago, for keeping the dry snuffs out of your lungs, bronchia and throat; Tuck your chin tight into your chest when you take a sniff, this seems to block the rear portion of the airway and keeps the snuff in your nose where you want it. Works for the guy that told me about it and it works well for me, so it might be worth a try for others. JMHO, as always YMMV.
Distilled water is recommended, there is no reason to encourage mold spores to grow.
Thanks for the good tips. Shall take them to heart.
