This morning, a friend from another forum (pipesmoking) was kind enough to send me a few samples of snuffs, to help “enable” my assimilation into the snuffing collective. lol… Think he was successful…
I recieved a few grams of the following…
WoS Jasmine
WoS Irish D High Toast #20
WoS Best Dark
SG Kendal Brown Original
Toque St. Clements
Molens de Kralingse Macuba
Molens de Kralingse Chococream…
So I figured I’d go through them and give a noobie snuffers point of view on them and get some feedback from the old noses…
The first one will be the Molons Chococream… I picked this one cause it struck me as the easiest to “get”… I like it alot… reminds me of kinda a tootsie rollish kinda scent and flavor… decent little buzz… not too strong…
Anyone tried this one, and what did you think of it?
I can see why… it does have a pleasant but solid burn, nothing compared to the Bruton’s Snuff which was my first… The chococreams grind seems alittle courser too… I actually feel like I need to blow this stuff out after its been in my nose for a while. I definitely see why you would want this stuff in the hands of newbies…The scent of it is quite nice.
Next up… WoS Best Dark… This one doesn’t seem as course as the molens, but maybe as moist if not moister then molens… the aroma is kinda a weird floral front with a earthy tobacco underneath? Alittle more burn then the molens chococream initially, but the burn passes pretty quick… again, nothing close to as strong as the Bruton’s burn… Theres a floral scent in the nose, but the earthiness is stronger. I don’t kjnow if I like this one or not… at first its kinda pleasant and then its like it kinda smells like dirty feet… then its kinda floral/earthy again… weird… I might not be “getting” this one…
WoS Irish D High Toast #20… Pretty finely ground, smells awesome and the baggy and even better in the nose… Fairly floral with a pleasant tobacco background. I could get used to this one.
Bruton’s was your first snuff?
Wow you’re quite a hard ass beginner! Most beginners find that a hard snuff to start with!
Sounds to me like you have a great kit for testing!
All I would recommend is possibly some SP style snuffs. If I may, I recommend the following (most SP’s are comparable to eachother.): Wilson’s Best SP, Tom Buck, SP 100, etc.
Also, I recommend to everyone Wilson’s Gold Label. It has SP scents added to some AWESOMELY fragrant Gold Virginia Tobacco which I am in love with ATM.
Welcome to the world of SNUFF! Hope you don’t develop TAD!
@ Gentleman… Wow… Im honored, thats exceedingly generous of you… for what its worth, Im really digging the strong floral in the Irish D High Toast… Been sniffing on it all day at work…
Yeah… the Bruton’s is too strong for me… I mean, I enjoyed the natural tobacco flavor of it… but it burned the bejeezers outta my nose… Ala the reason I cut it back with some home ground tobaccos to make it alittle more, tolerant of my nose hairs… ( yes, I’m that old)
Think next, I’ll try some of the WoS Jasmine… it sure smells nice in the baggie…lol
I find myself really enjoying this Jasmine… the floral isn’t over powering but definitely up front… and I happen to really enjoy the jasmine as a scent anyways…Mild to medium burn and seems pretty satisfying in the nicotine area. I could definitely get used to this blend.
Baggie? Who snuffs from baggie’s? Oh, wait, you do. I never liked the Wilsons version of Jasmine. It must be me not her. I’m going to give her another try right now. Well, it still smells like soap. The Seville is like that for me too. At least the Seville has those awesome F&T tobaccos. Carry on then.
Lol… yeah… I hear that alot about alot of florals… they taste “Soapy” to alot… not sure if its a chemistry thing or what… but as far as the littl ziplock baggie thing goes… whatdaya want, I’m a noob… I don’t know any better!
WoS Best Dark will eventually eat your soul. I was the same when I first tried it…“Hmm, a bit too earthy and indistinct, not for me”. Now, I’d have a shrine to the stuff in my house if I didn’t think the Mrs would find it weird. Superb stuff. Also I have to agree heartily with @transistor, WoS Gold Label is beautiful, beautiful snuff. I suspect that noses were invented for such things!
No need to go very far for a beautiful Virginia based SP. You have Macuba at your fingertips! Although some may insist that it should have bergamot. The Prins Regent is this very snuff with bergamot added.
I have to agree… I can’t seem to find ANYTHING I don’t like about the Macuba Blend… Im sure it would be nice with Bergamot, but frankly, I REALLY like this snuff just how it is…
Soapy… That’s the descriptor I was looking for for this Gawith Hoggarth Strawberry. I don’t think I’ll ever buy another box of this, but I’m enjoying the heck out of it right now.
Best Dark is one of my favorites and the burn is half the fun F&T Seville is soapy for me too, It is the only F&T I am not super fond of and I only have 2 more scents to try to have tried them all.
Yeah Best Dark is highly corrosive, I think those tins have a special coating but they still corrode, you can rehydrate it but if it has corroded tin dust in it you may not want to, this is one I jar up as soon as I get it.
