Great site you have here… I’ve just begun my nasal snuff journey and have definetely been enjoying it. Starting with the legendary 10 tin sampler from toque, getting some samplers from friends, and enjoying an American Scotch. My question is that Ive been keeping my toque tins in their original little zip locks that Roderick puts them in and then put those in a large ziploc. Is this overkill? I keep them I’m a dry place, upper shelf of my closet. Thing is when I want to grab a pinch it’s a chore to take them out. I just want them to be as fresh as possible. Another question I have is are there any snuffs that smell like fresh cut wood like 2x4’s? One fond memory I have is my father working on our outside deck, or working on a skateboard ramp when I was young. Just a good smell from my childhood.
I wish now that I had kept my Toques that way. I did fine with all my 25gmers having special jars and boxes for the tins to sit in but all my 10gm samples are bone dry. Rehydration is no problem but it’s less of a problem doing it your way and yours will have a better scent. Of course there are other solutions for ease of access but untill then I say carry on as you are. For a Larry Bertelman stye frontside layback axle grind go for Sterneckers Staubinger or any of the Sternecker’s for that matter.
I’ve also got all my Toque tins in the “original” Roderick bags and stored airtight. That way, the snuff stay fresh indefinitely.
“Starting with the legendary 10 tin sampler from toque” Legend - a non-historical or unverifiable story handed down by tradition from earlier times and popularly accepted as historical. Roderick must be most gratified that his snuffs are already legendary :<)
I noticed on Sharrow’s site that they too will customise sampler packs on request. I remember sombody complaining that they didn’t not long ago. Well, they say they do.
@PhillipS. Sierra Nevada Pale Ale and The Beatles have become legendary in a short time, so I think Toque can as well.
I’ve seen Rodericks’ reference to Kilnar jars before and finally looked it up on Wiki. If I’m not mistaken you are referring to what we call, in the states, a Mason jar? There is also a name brand of Ball that is popular. Both brands are made by the same company today.
I always called the bail closure types “Kilner jars” and the ones used for canning “Mason jars”. I see that I should have been calling it a “French Kilner Jar”. Although I think the shops that sell them label them that way.
I just picked some Kilner jars from Asda. Not many left now. I suppose the end of the fruit/veg bottling season is why. 1.5l jars going for £2, 1l jars for £1 and 3 x 0.5l jars for £2. I couldn’t find them online for anything like that price. The 1.5l jars are good for 500g of snuff.
Wilkinson’s sells Kilner jars all year round, I think I paid about £1.50 each for my 1L jars.
Thanks for the info! I’ll definetely look into the kilnar/mason jars for storage. Before posting I was considering maybe an old wood cigar box but those aren’t air tight. I refer to the toque sampler as legendary because while on another board (snuson) I mentioned I was interested in snuff and everyone was animate about the toque ten tin sampler… Like a right of passage if you will? lol. Only thing I regretted was not adding Spanish gem. That will be remedied soon i’m getting some spanish gem in a trade with a friend. What I’m looking into now is trying florals, in the same trade I’m getting a few grams of Indian florals. What I love about snuff is this flavours and styles are endless.
Just get 3 Toque ten tin samplers, that way you can try nearly the whole range for a low price. When I started it was closer to 20 to try them all, so 2 samplers at once worked out well. I’ve since gotten seconds of quite a few and bulk of a few others. @ Roderick: I hear you. I was working with this English guy a few years ago. I asked if he wanted to go out for a drink or dinner or something after work. He said, “Sure, come knock me up around half eight.” Now the “half eight” part I had heard before, though its not used in the US. But getting knocked up has a totally different meaning here! Yowser!
Lmao “knock me up” too funny
@Xander If you make a reference to Joey Ramone’s hairstyle as having “long bangs” it gets quite a laugh over the pond.
