Hi there, I have just recently started snuffing, and have been following this forum for some time and have done a fair bit of searching and then decided to start this thread, not only to get the info that I want but to get to meet some fellow snuffers by name. Firstly… could you please define to me what is “a scotch” and could I have an example, so I can try one, the same with “a toast” also with “an SP” Thanks in advance for your help snuffers!
A few of us Mods are working on this very project. But in the meantime: Scotch: A US snuff of fine grind and very dry. Usually has a smoky scent and higher in nicotine. Ex: Levi Garrett, Superior, Starr Toast: somewhat close to a US scotch, but still worlds away. Much more nutty in flavor, traditional Irish snuff. Ex: Wilson’s Irish High Toast 21 & 22, Fribourg & Treyer High Dry Toast, Toque Whisky & Honey. SP: a bergamot flavored snuff, SP is believed to stand for “Spanish.” Ex: Wilson’s SP 2, SP 100, Best SP, Toque Original
There’s plenty of more experienced snuffers on here, but I’ll gladly take on this question. Btw I’m Rob, nice to meet you! Scotch: SMOKEY. This name mostly given to DRY SNUFF from America. VERY finely ground, dry to little moisture, and mostly has a BBQ, Smokey, or campfire scent to them. Usually they are the strongest nicotine kickers. Takes great care to snuff, or you’ll get it in the throat or brain! Example: Rooster or Honey Bee Toast: Alot like the American Scotches when it comes to difficulty taking. Exactly as the name implies: toasted tobacco. Most ppl that like toasts enjoy scotches as well Example: Fribourg and Treyer’s High Dry Toast or Toque Lime Toast! Most of these have TOAST in the name. Good nicotine kick, but that could have to do with the fine grind as well… SP: Here’s my FAVORITE. I love anything SP. I don’t think anyone knows exactly what SP stands for, but it is usually a blend of tobacco (various grinds but usually fine and moist) with BERGAMOT or some kind of CITRON flavors, but also a great natural tobacco undertone. Very Citrusy, and has a great burn. SEVERAL different kinds out there. My favorites: Tom Buck from Wilson’s or Toque Original. Alot of these have SP in the name. Various nic strengths…
DOH! Sorry @CSTOKES!!!
No worries, this work PC I am on is so damn slow!
Oh well, many more options for the Noob! Notice we listed different examples
Thanks very much fellas.
All good advice, just jump in with any questions if searching doesn’t help.
@lockwoodhorne hello a fair newbie myself, I have found that these guys are very helpfull on here. Also I just got my first scotches about a week ago. smokey and high in nicotine I have been using tube rose from cornwood, or american snuff co. same company, it is nice but if you are new be extra carefull it is very fine and will make you cough (after about 8g it still makes me cough sometimes) but I am chris nice to meet you.
@snuffeysouthcarolina Hi Chris, I’m another Chris! I’ve just received 2 x 10 tin selection packs from Toque - I’m trying them as I go along and putting a little something on Snuff Review. I’ve never been to South Carolina, but spend a few months in North Carolina a few years ago! Nice to meet you mate.
@Lockwoodhorne Welcome to the wonderful world of snuff!! I think the 2 other Chrises…Chrisi…Chris’…heck i don’t know…them other 2 fellers what names are Chris did a jam up with the explanations. The only thing I have to add is great job starting with Toque! You can’t go wrong there…and I’m John also from South Carolina. Wait…why do you want our names…you don’t work for the government do you? If that’s the case my name is Francisco De La Nouche!!! =D
@fischtix Ah, sorry mate - I didn’t mean actually by personal name, I really meant get to talk to you guys personally and get to know you all a little better. This is a really cool and active forum - Oh and I’m from London, England. I’m not sure what a collective of Chris are called! I quite like Chrisi though. Just tried Toque Blue berry menthol - love the blueberry notes, menthol made my eyes water and I’m sneezing like a mad thing!
I was just funnin with ya…i don’t mind throwin my personal name out there…John is common enough not to be incriminating lol!! It’s nice to meet ya Chris! =)
@fishtix lmao fransisco
@snuffeysouthcarolina Hey, that’s a common enough name in SC, right? =D
And common in NC too - esp. Winston!
@fishtix yeah I actual’y go by my last name because it is less common than chris I have 5 other friends with the same name that seem’d to be the easiest way to do it lmao
you don’t even wanna know the nicknames i go by…lol!!!
I go by “Hey you!” most of the time… but I prefer “Rob.” I should change my handle so that there’s a “bob” and a “rob” on here.
I wish my name was bob so i could spell it backwards, and nobody would know. I have a sneaking suspicion that the bob here does it all the time to screw with us!
My mum does that! my dad to, now I think about it, my nan does!! my brother Nik doesn’t do it and he’s my kin too.
@lockwoodhorne forgot to mention this earlier, if you try scotches first and it seems to go up too far try holding the upper part of your nostril. not closed but just a little pinched I find that it helps with not getting what I call “the brain hit” lol
@Lockwoodhorne: Another Chris here, although I adopted the nickname “Chiron” (ref. Greek mythology) many years ago because my friends got frustrated with having to identify which Chris they were talking about. Worked out fine. A collection of Chris’s? Chrysanthemums? lol
My name is Richard.
@pipensnusnsnuff lmao chrysanthemums, little dainty but i kinda like it.
Richard here too.
Nobody knows my name… hehehehe Oh and welcome! I was going to post in this thread when I first saw it, then I realised I didnt know how to define them! And instead of pinching the top of the nose under the bridge, try putting the snuff right under the nostril and drop the adams apple (clench the neck muscles) it is soooo much better
And I’m Debbie - possibly the last remaining female on the forum lol! Nice to meet you Chris (es), welcome to the wonderful and only slightly frightening world of snuff.
@toffeenose whats up as one of the many chris’ I say hello for all of us. lol
My real name is Bartholomew. I go by Bart. I was given no given middle name. Sometimes I wish I was named Chris instead.
XD XD well well, a more funny ongoing here… my real name is Philipp and i can say that i like it … welcome abroad !!! @toffeenose respect for that alone!
Most just call me by my last name, which is a secret.
Don’t call me late for dinner!
I’m Stefan obviously cos I sign every post with that. I’ve no middle name, and my last one you wouldn’t want to know lol. Stefan
Well, I didn’t know that. It’s always interesting to hear bits of snuff history! BTW, my real name is also Richard…
