I have long had a hankering for a birth year silver snuff box to match the birth year Peterson pipe I already have. This little beauty finally ended the wait. Made by Deakin & Francis of Birmingham and hallmarked for 1956 this box is in remarkably good condition, better condition than I am in at the same age in fact! It measures 6.2cm by 4.5cm and is 1.2cm deep with a weight of 43g. The hinge is in perfect condition allowing the box to close properly. The style is distinctly Georgian and I do especially like its simple, curved form, free from the typical excesses of Victorian decoration, The vendor I bought it from said that it is an exact copy of a design from c. 1780 and I have no reason to doubt that. On top of everything else, it seems to be thoroughly snuff proof as well with not a hint of a leak. A snuff box to cherish. Does anyone else have a birthday snuff box?

Does anyone else have a birthday snuff box?

No, @ermtony , you have to be born in a lucky year. I have a sneaking suspicion the 1971 edition is covered in suede, with a psychedelic motive in maroon, orange and bile green. But ah well, if it’s good enough for John Shaft it should be good enough for me. Seriously, it is a gorgeous snuff box, enjoy!

I don’t even want to guess what a 1980 box would look like.

@apvonkanel : Nancy Reagan’s worst blue dress, pocket sized. That, or Yoko Ono’s sunglasses, folded into an oyster shape.

I never seen a sterling silver box that had been spray painted, I suppose that is a benefit if you live in a high crime area, And wanted to snuff in public. The thieves would not realize your holding a small fortune in your hand, unless they see the gold wash inside . Nice box !

i see a very similar size of this snuffbox on ebay but the seller does not send to my country :-S

A truly fine looking box. I too have been looking for a snuffbox from my birth year. Unfortunately genuine Georgian snuff boxes are very hard to find and expensive.

I have the same box from the same maker, only mine is 1964, which is not my birthyear, but it’s a fine box that doesn’t leak one bit of snuff, no matter how fine, or how much it is shaken.

That is the nicest snuff box I’ve seen. Been on a search for silver snuff boxes and bought 3 this week. Found one just like yours. It was pretty close to my birthday being made about 1806 and was in the $1000 range. If it’s still for sale in July when my dollar account will go up I might consider it. totally crazy to spend that much on a snuff box for regular use. For better or worse I may be that crazy. But yours really is as good as it gets. Congratulations. I had posted here before and have kept your box in mind. Beautiful. And luck with it. Hope you’re still using it on your hundredth birthday.
