still new to all this and exploring whats out there, today i ordered three 6 photo snuffs, special, kailash and anarkali. what are peoples opinions on these, and what am i to expect?
tl;dr: Funky, but delicious, if polarizing. Full write-up: You can see a thread I started some time ago (month or so) where I wax rhapsodic about the Six Photo snuffs. I have not tried the Special or Anarkali (but they’re in my present order being shipped soon), so I can’t answer to that, but I can to Kailash. Kailash is a fairly strongly mentholated fermented black snuff. It has a fine grind and medium moisture. On the nose, it has a funky banana bread aroma that comes through when snuffed. The menthol hits you, then it settles down into a perfumey aroma. Someone more knowledgeable than I can tell you the components. Some have said it smells like artsy bath soap or air freshener and I wouldn’t disagree with them. I would disagree with them when they say it is a distasteful aroma. Super Kailash is less strongly mentholated than Kailash and its nose has a strong nag champa aroma. It is as finely ground as the Kailash, but “fluffier,” and medium moisture, but brown and not fermented as much (I would assume) as the black Kailash or Motia. In the nose, the aroma gives a bit of a mentholated hit and then settles down into that incense aroma. Its nose sticks around about as long as the Kailash (which for me is a while). I absolutely love both, but I’d give an edge to the Super Kailash. There’s also the Motia, which is pure menthol and camphor. It’s black as well, but there’s little funkiness or incense outside of that (it’s there, but much more subtle or just blown away by the menthol and camphor). It’s easily my favorite. I relish waking up in the morning, cleaning my nose out from the previous night’s snuffing, letting it dry a bit, and then taking a nice snuff in the morning. It’s a bit eye-watering and strong, but man there’s nothing like it, in my estimation. It’s exhilarating and and total wake up call. I swear I’m addicted to that feeling less than the nicotine (I always look forward to the Indian snuffs when I go for some time only snuffing the other English or Dutch or German snuffs I have). A caveat: I have not yet sampled any English mentholated snuffs of any strength, so I have no reference against which to compare the Motia blast I get; I will fix that deficiency in this shipment as well (McChrystal’s Original and Genuine and L260 are in this shipment as well). I have a feeling that Indian snuffs are a love it or hate it kind of proposition, due to the incense-y nature of the scented snuffs. (I have also tried the Six Photo Natural, a fine, dry, light brown snuff, and didn’t care for it, but part of that is that I haven’t yet figured out how to take it without taking a massive head shot and coughing and hacking.) Hope that helps a little.
Anarkali was the only one of those three I had my own tin of (I’ve tried a friend’s Kailash once); it was jet black, fine, oiled, lightly mentholated, and had a smell rather like the so-called “turkish delight” thing you get in Horse Brand Joshi Jubilee Snuff. I guess that doesn’t mean much, but it’s basically spicy and a little sweet. It is supposedly a rose snuff but I do not get a ton of rose out of it, maybe a hint. Sometimes you can get hints of the dungy, fermented base tobacco too (though they definitely add food coloring or something to make it so jet black). It was not a keeper for me, ended up giving it away to a friend who liked it. I prefer Motia myself.
I absolutely love anarkali. Its really the only mentholated snuff I use anymore. I buy it in bulk. The other two you mentioned were good too. Try the 6 photo natural. Its drier but strong in nicotine. Its brown not black like the three you mentioned in your post.

it was the incense nature of the 6photo snuffs thats attracted me to them, ive always used incense in my home and im hoping i like these snuffs for this reason.
I love the 6 Photo snuffs, from the power of Cheeta to the sweetness of Special, I liked all 6 Photo I have tried.

Precisely. The second I smelled it, or more accurately, snuffed it, it smelled exactly like the incense I’ve always loved. It has wonderful memories for me and I just can’t get enough of it. Almost literally. I snuff the Indians constantly when I get a chnace.
i received my order of 6photo today. ive just tried the anarkali and im smitten, absolutely wonderful stuff. ill be buying a bigger tin of this when its finished, its gorgeous.
The only Indian snuff I’ve tried was 6 photo natural and I loved it. It seemed like there was a slight hint of menthol and the tobacco/herbal scent mix was outstanding. On my next MrSnuff order I will most definitely order a medium to large size tin of this one. Probably will get some other varieties as well.
Kailash and Special are my 2 favorites. Anarkali is too dry for me.
