Interesting enough, this company makes quite some claims on their homepage 6 Photo Snuff that propose they´d be widely available all around the world: Apart from delivering quality smokeless tobacoo products we aim to make Indian snuff popular all over the world… Six Photo Snuff has a strong market presence in India & abroad… Cheeta is the white Indian snuff with a dash of any perfume and has a great demand overseas I´ve never seen any of their products being offered by any online snuff retailer and the local indian stores have never heard of snuff from India (and with 500.000 people in my city, it´s not that small). So… where is this stuff? Has anyone seen evidence of its existence? (I don´t mean the 5 Photo Snuffs, of course, which were purchased by some members here)
Nope.
Ah, dziękuję Maciej!
Do you think so? Hmmm, I dunno. I clearly feel “abroad” has the meaning of being much further away, or specifically: across the ocean. Presenting the site in english wouldn´t make too much sense, as well. I could as well write them an e-mail, but I´ve just done that twice yesterday without getting a reply. Well, I´ll just wait if that made any sense, before I write them as well.
I think that makes sense -btw the language is called Hindi, the religion Hindu.
I love Indian snuffs, and a while back, when I found the ones I found at the Indian store locally, I scoured the internet, and found all the Indian snuff websites I could, and emailed them all politely requesting either samples or how to obtain them, and I never got a single reply or suprise package.
Got a very nice reply from Mr Grover who’s the CEO (?) of 5 Photo when I wrote him. I would love to see it go on sale here as well as Europe and the UK. Assuming that it’s already gone down well in Western China. I’m Uyghur on my Mum’s side of the family and assuming that my tastes aren’t terribly different than theirs. Lol!
Oh well, it´s getting more international by the minute!
Mr. Grover also emailed me back. He was willing to send me a package will all of their snuffs. He asked that I wire him the funds. I’m a bit leary of that so I opted not to do so. One day they will be available in the US and other places. Look how quickly Dholakia expanded and now SUN is breaking into other markets. It is only a matter of time.
I may have missed emailing 6 Photo, I don’t recall them all. If I had been offered to wire the money, at the time, I might had done that.
Really? Tom, have I told you that I am a Nigerian Prince in exile? I have a lot of money that I need to put in your bank account so it will be safe from my enemies. I’ll be willing to cut you in for a share of course.
what you too? damn, I though I was the only one
Hehe, a good portion of sillieness around here, very nice! I`m quite strict on that matter as well: they either send some free samples, or may just let it be. Even the biggest player, Pöschl sends out samples by request and they´d have any reason not to do so.
Well, Pöschl has the financial capital to do so. They were very generous to me when I first started snuff.
Dhrruv and Mr. Grover are the same person. I must have found him in a generous mood because he sent three cans of snuff gratis.I did post about them and sent him a more detailed impression which he is free to use as he sees fit. It seems that several of my emails went unanswered but I think his spam filter may have got in the way Now I didn’t ask for one of each, so there is a slight difference. There was a total of 100g - one can was 50 and the other two 25g ea.By any accounts this is a most generous sample. Having thus established his good will with me, I wouldn’t hesitate to pay for a can of everything he makes plus postage in advance. But I would prefer do it through paypal and indicate it was a gift with the charges for “postage and handling” Wire transfers are not in the everyday banking experience of most people and insisting on this form of payment is, imho, an unnecessary obstacle. A couple years ago I bought a parcel of four cartons of bidis from the factory in India. I don’t smoke them very often, but now and then I get a wild hair for one. The factory took paypal and everything went smoothly. But it could have just as easily turned to shit. I think that Dhrruv would like to get people talking about his snuff, but hasn’t found a cost-effective way to do it. I will say that his snuffs are very sophisticated and complex. They have good clearing qualities and are very well-balanced. One is just about the best jasmine you could hope for. Some Indian snuffs are over the top with scents, but his are not. Distributing free samples is very necessary to break into new markets. Presumably a third-generation snuff maker would have sufficient capital on hand to underwrite the effort. Cast your bread upon the waters and it will come back to you.
I don’t even want a free sample. If what you say about the jasmine is true, I just want a place to BUY it. I’ve never seen a decent jasmine snuff, and would love to.
Good point. There are at least a couple members here with the wherewithal to make it happen. It would be a better arrangement for everyone involved. To be fair Dholakia makes an excellent jasmine, but I it’s a one note snuff. This one builds upon the jasmine with other exotic scents. There is nothing on the can to indicate it’s a jasmine snuff, just says PAANCH PHOTO SNUFF - but my nose tells me jasmine is the dominant scent. Tom mailed me some snuff he found at a local India market. One was the Himalayan by 5 photo. It was a bit shop worn, but usable. The fresh product is way WAY better! The “Special Snuff” from this maker is hard for me to distinguish from the Himalayan, save that it seems to have a bit less menthol. Perhaps my schnoz is not so well tuned when it comes to complex scented types. My everyday taste is for plain tobacco goodness.
Making them available is of course by far more important, than to receive some samples. It´s quite useless if you like them and not being able to get any more afterwards. I´ve written them as well as Günter from snuffstore.de and I have hope, something will be made from that. As the retailers are all in common contact, it would be just a matter of time, until they would show up at nicrush/mrsnuff/mars as well.
Well, like Sun Snuffs did with Nicrush as their US Importer distro, so could MrSnuff do the same 6 Photo, or another.
Stitch’s description of fresh 5 Photo really has me going! The older tin I got from Tom was absolutely fantastic stuff. Just hoping the new ones still have the Himalaya picture on them. I’d love to have those graphics in poster size.
I found some 6 Photo at a little Indian grocery. It was only available in a tiny tin, like 10g. When the guy handed it to me, I thought it was Himalaya, but he said no, it’s 6 photo. The packaging is almost identical to the Himalaya, but of course the plastic can is much smaller, the graphics are similar, even the picture (6 photos) of that dude with the white turban. And (6 photos) of another guy without a turban, as well as a few landscape images. It is dark and tastes almost the same as the Himalaya, but with an “agricultural” note. Cool thing is, it lists ingredients! “tobacco, lime water, paraffin oil, colors, mixed spices, menthol, natural and artificial flavors, contains added flavors.” It says "Lachhmandass Amarnath Snuff Mfrs, Giddarbaha (Pb.)
Cool! Jai Bharata!
Repeatedly emailed all the indian snuff makers and only got one reply. That was from one snuff maker. I won’t mention the name but it was very polite and enlightening. I was told that only one carrier was prepared to handle snuff and that was the Indian Post Office. Their international rates were very expensive and it cost on average £12 to £15 to send out a sample (for USD, multiply by 1.5). Because of taxes, transport, rules and regs (this was before PACT) potential distributors of their products were only prepared to pay the same as the cost of snuff in india. A few pence (cents) per drum. Their market in India was vast compared to the potential market abroad and the sender hoped I wouldnt be offended and that I would appreciate the economics. A very pleasant email but a bit of an eye opener never the less.
Yeah, that was a nice email. I did recieve one reply, though I can’t recall what he said, I did ask him to contact NicRush, a while back. But, yeah, I can fully understand him not wanting to make an effort to sell a few cans of his exotic tobacco item to a few afficinados, when their business flows well in India. But still, it makes getting these a challenge, like a goal.
Hi new here, I used to get a small lil plastic container I suspect was 5 photo, and it did have a bit of a jasmine scent to it. I emailed the folks at 5 photo asking where I could get their snuff in the USA. I am trying to switch from chewing tobacco and copenhagen back to scotty snuff, my all time favorite. I used to get the small tins of “Dr. Rumneys Mentholyptus” way back when, of course it is only available in the 7 gm size and shipping charges really bite you good. I have tried locating snuff online here in Missouri, not having any luck. I will post back if I get a reply from 5 photo, I am really interested in the 200gm size of himalaya, and super himalaya. I can always get a small tin for my pocket or better yet a nice wooden snuff box. Take care
Have you tried Mr Snuff (advert on left side of this page). He is now in the uk and stocks 5Photo snuffs. Had a quick look at his site (not cheap). Average price for 50g is 6 us dollars each and he ships to the US. For 3 50g tubs of 5photo it will cost you around 26 us dollars including shipping. He also has other Indian snuffs.
I think it is cheap. The 10gs are cheap, and 50gs(if in stock) are 2 dollars less than when NicRush sold them. The only not so cheap thing might be the shipping, but order enough and it balances out.
I would say it is quite affordable considering the costs you’ve mentioned. I only hope you may be able to acquire more snuffs from India in the future.
How about some Dholakia Seven Photo?
@ mr.snuff. I will allways recommend you as you have an excellent reputation. I mention price only from a UK snuffers point of view. If I order american snuff from Nicoteen rush and my order is under £18.00 GBP (approx $28.00 USD) , no vat is chargeable, no import duties and for an order of any size no tobacco tax is payable on nasal snuff under UK law. Even with shipping costs from the US this is a considerable saving. I fully accept your points and you may consider that you are not on a level playing field. Unfortunately these are the sad realities of trading in the EU. I am sure you will do well and all credit to you for bringing hard currencies into the UK.

Thanks Xander! Unfortunately I’m on an iPhone and I think the vanilla deal recognizes it and makes it iPhone friendly. Can’t find search though
Hmmmm, I’m not so sure about this new board. Anyway, I want to thank MrSnuff for getting these 6 Photos. I am an Indian snuff buff, and I just ordered them. I’ll share what I think when they arrive.
Tom, definetely let us know I trust your opinion. You were right on the Himalaya.
@EricHill78: I must admit the old search feature was better. This one is very general. The old one had some advanced features.
are any of these other indian snuffs similar to the White Elephant?
I doubt it PP… But you never know.
I’ve ordered 2 tins (25-45g) of each of the 6 photo snuffs offered by Mr. Snuff. Once they arrive I will spend some time with them and report my observations here.
6 photos? I don’t know if thats enough for me. I don’t usually go with less than 10 photos.
I’m glad some of you’ll be ordering the 6 photo to give it a shot. Curious to see if it’s worth anything.
Looking forward to hearing peoples thoughts on these snuffs as I am too financially challenged to try any at the moment.
Just wanted to say, I have the 6 Photo Snuffs now, thanks MrSnuff, and I think they are really good. I got one of each.
Am I the only one that got these and was interested in them? MrSnuff got these and I am hearing no mention of them. Well, I think they are really good. Similar, but different than the 5 Photos. They are unique. They could do with better plastic containers, but they have that old world Indian charm, something I think Dholakia lost when they “westernized” their labels. But, the 6 Photo Snuff are really good. Gonna have some Special now.
I am waiting for my money to arrive. Happens every two weeks for about 2 hrs.
I am waiting for detailed descriptions.
Still waiting on mine to arrive, hope it comes soon.
Well, as I have said already, these 6 Photo Snuffs are really great. I think one thing that makes then different, is they have an ingrediant list on the cans, and one of the ingrediants is lime water, and I think I can scent that in them, sorta citrissy, that I don’t think I get with the 5 Photos. The Kailesh and Super Kailesh are similar in grind and scent to Himalaya and Super Himalaya, as well as the Special, compared with the 5 Photo, but they are different in a way, and I can’t say one is better than the other. The Super Chetak almost reminded me of Sparrow Cool, but no, it has that lime scent as well, but the grind is very fine about like the Sparrow. I think the Anarkali is sorta like the Raja. My only negative is the metal cans, though they looks nice and decorative, the paint comes off them some. The Anarkali does have a plastic tub. But the snuff is good quality in my view.
Tom, I think the lime water is made from quicklime and it is used to change the PH.
@Nachman, do you think quicklime is better to use than bicarb of soda? I’ve got some of my own Rustica fermenting at present and was thinking of adding some bicarbs to bring on the nic hit a bit. What kind of quicklime should I use?
No, I think the bicarb is easier on the nose and we snuffers have to protect our most important asset. they just put a very little quicklime in water. Too much quicklime would burn like a mother and could blister your nose. They use straight quicklime to dispose of bodies quickly. It eats them up. Dangerous stuff if not used expertly.
I am also waiting on a package containing, among other items, small packets of 6 Photo Kailash, Super Kailash, and Special. I ordered on 15 December, so I expect it should arrive before too long. I’m looking forward to sampling them.
PipenSnusnSnuff I wish you good luck because I’ve been waiting on my Mr.Snuff order containing each of the 6 photo snuffs and other snuffs I ordered. I’ve been waiting on them to arrive now for 29 days and counting. It was a rather large order that contains 638g worth of tobacco not counting shipping and commercial packaging from David of Mr. Snuff. I placed the order on Wed, Dec 8, 2010 at 12:30 AM Eastern Standard Time (EST) and it was finally processed and shipped out to me on Tue, Dec 14, 2010 at 1:11 PM Greenwich Mean Time (GMT). I can understand if there was snow problems but 6 days to process an order! To me that is very frustrating and rather poor customer service. Then after placing my order I find out about this 500g package Bullcrap. I have a sick feeling that I’ll be lucky to receive this package before Valentines day any sooner than that would be a miracle! Thankfully I placed an order with Roderick of Toque about 15 minutes after my order with Mr. Snuff. Thank god for Roderick and Toque Snuffs who provides some of the best snuffs, excellent customer service, fast reliable shipping, and provides helpful information for all of us snuffers everywhere. I received my Toque order Dec. 27th and am very happy with all of the snuffs I purchased from Roderick. Best of luck, Steve
Got my order today. So far I’ve only tried the Kailash out of the three flavors of 6 Photo snuff I ordered. Very nice. It’s dark and moist like 5 Photo Himalaya, but a bit more floral. I get definite hints of champa and patchouli (mostly champa), along with a light, refreshing touch of menthol and eucalyptus. A generous dose of nicotine, too. The best Indian snuff I’ve tried so far. I will update this with my impressions of the other two soon.
Some first impressions of the other two 6 Photo flavors I received today: Super Kailash – golden brown and moist. Very floral with a pronounced burn. Champa is once again the predominant note, but this time I think I detect lotus and rose in the background. There are very likely several other floral ingredients as well, and a light touch of menthol. Good for those that like complex florals or incense-like fragrances, but probably won’t appeal to those who don’t. Special – Musk!!! That’s definitely the major ingredient. Given that musk deer are endangered, I sincerely hope it’s a synthetic. Coal-black and moist, again with a hint of menthol, with champa and a few other florals in the background. Easy to take and quite enjoyable. Of the three, the regular Kailash is definitely my favorite, although I like the Special very much, too.
Yes, I think these are great snuffs, on par with the 5 Photos. These are my favorite kind of snuffs, just the right grind and moisture to me, fragrant like they are, and a just right amount of menthol.
I’ve only tried the 5 Photo Himalaya so far, but I like 6 Photo Kailash better.
Hi everyone I’m Vikas Grover and I’m one of the directors of six photo snuff. Thanks for appreciating our products.Your comments and suggestions are welcome.
Hi Vikas, nice to see you. Yes, I believe your snuffs are excellent. The Super Chetak was too fine grind for my personal tastes, but I really enjoy the Kailesh, Super Kailesh, Special, and Anarkali.
We always welcome and enjoy having the principals from snuff makers and sellers on the site. Welcome and here’s hoping you will become a regular poster @Vikas!
@tom502 and ddavelarsen thanks for the appreciation. Actually in India most people use the snuff as a toothpowder so the grind has to be really fine.
@tom502 i have high interest in getting the whole 6 photo range, i am very curious about their style. are they similair to 5 photo snuff ?
Welcome VIkas! Just tried the Kailesh recently. First impression: just like 5 photo Himalaya. My second impression: Superior to the aforementioned Himalaya. It is good snuff!
@Vikas how they use it as toothpowder and why ?? does it acutally clean the teeth ?? i am curious.
@matsnuffs Thanks for the appreciation @Prismaster In india people massage their gums with snuff. It gives an instant kick. You can have full range of 6 photo snuff at Mr Snuff
@prismaster yes, I find them on par with 5 Photo. Both are excellent.
@Vikas would it be possible to get 6 photo snuff in bulk, like a half pound or pound?
@n9inchnails yes we have a packing range starting from 4g upto 15 kg can
For one thing the main action of toothpaste is grit for mild abrasion. Powdered tobacco fits that bill. Plus tobacco is antiseptic and will kill germs so it may actualy work better then toothpaste.
You are probably right bob. That is why we have a tremendous following in India for Super Kailash as a dentrifice
@Vikas nice to see another manufacturer on here, I’ve never tried your snuffs but am intrigued by them. I will order them soon. Stefan
Thanks Stefan , you will surely like them!
I hope so, I like Indian snuffs in general, they are very exotic tasting. When I next get paid I’ll order the whole range. Stefan
Hi, Vikas, and welcome to Snuffhouse. Thanks for making such great products. Kailash has quickly become one of my top 3 favorite snuffs. I hope you will help ensure that Mr. Snuff remains well-stocked, as I plan to make it a frequently reordered item.
@PipenSnusnSnuff thanks for the appreciation. You have given real good reviews of our products! Just dispatched a new consignment to mr. snuff.so no worries on that count. This time Mr snuff has also ordered an another favorite, Cheeta -the white Indian snuff. It’s strong dry snuff with just a hint of perfume.try it!
@Vikas : welcome to the forum. I’ve yet to try any 6 photo but Its definitely on my list of snuffs to order. That cheetah sounds interesting…
@jbruckus thanx! You won’t repent your choice for sure
I’am curious why do so many snuff makers have photo in the name? I’ve always imagined there is some interesting reason for that.
Actually in India a lot of the consumers are illiterate. They just count the number of pictures(photos) and purchase snuff of their choice.
makes sense. That’s the same reason in europe bussiness signs had a picture or statue showing the services or wares they offered. thank you much.
It just occurred to me that the Indian practice of using snuff as a dentifrice is nearly identical to the traditional method of dipping snuff as practiced in the American South. A peeled twig, often frayed and moistened at one end by chewing, would be dipped into the snuff can and used to brush snuff onto the gums. A finger was sometimes used if no twig was available.
Going to have to order some of these on my next order. edm
@ Vikas, welcome aboard. I was just going to ask the same question as bob. Many thanks for your answer.
6 photo will be in my next order to Mr Snuff on Monday.
The only indian snuff ive had is sun kohinoor. What would you guys recommend for a real good incense falvour.
@snuffhead you are welcome to ask anything on snuff.Well when branded snuff was introduced in India in the early part of the 20th century not many people could read or write, therefore counting pictures was relatively easier. So these names originated
@Brandasaur Try 6photo super kailash for it’s champa flavor.you shall surely like it.
@ Vikas, welcome! Which of the 6 photo snuffs has the jasmine scent?
@Bodger super kailash snuff is the one with the jaismine note. And guys don’t forget to post your reviews of 6photo snuff when use get it. I shall look forward to your comments .
The 6 Photo Snuff cans say “Sniffing Tobacco” on them.
@Vikas Thank you, that is the one I shall try then.
I was thinking of buying both 5 photo Himalaya and 5 photo Super Himalaya. You guys are saying 6 photo Kailash and Super Kailash are similar so should I buy 5photo of one and 6 photo of another? Sun Pari was amazing (already finished it) and people compare it to Himalaya a lot. I also tried 5photo Raja and really enjoy it as well but it’s a bit too floral.
@supsupsup if you are a sniffer try 6 photo kailash and go for 6 photo super kailash if you are a dipper. It is better for dipping.
As an American dipper, I don’t agree. Super Kailesh is awesome in the nose. I like it in the nose, more than the others, though the others are great as well.
To each his own !!!
@Vikas how would go about getting a half pound of your snuff here in Canada?
The one I’ve been enjoying is Anarkali, although I don’t know what the hell is in it. In my next order I’ll surely be getting more of it in the biggest size available, along with something else–probably the kailash.
We have bigger packs like 200g and 500g tins and 1kg plastic jars.Presently mr snuff has only smaller packs unto 45g
@n9inchnails whichone would u like to have
I would like a 200g tin of Kailash
nice choice n9
i use it and relish it man
@n9inchnails try with mr snuff once ,tell him to get it,or else I shall have to make some other arrangement
Hey Rex what brand do you use?
That is how it is. Everyone should fine the way this great products make em happy. I am looking forward to my first Super Kailesh and Cheta.
@prismaster that’s the way to go !
That’s what I’M wondering… I’m waiting to order some till I make up my mind which to try! I’m poor and can’t afford all of them! ha
I just know I love Indian snuff, it’s my favorite of the world availables, it suits my nose the best, and doesn’t aggrevate it like others. I also love the traditional style art labels, I wish Dholakia kept their original labels, I know it’s what’s inside that’s important, but being an artist, and interested in commercial art, to me, the Indian products, because they look Indian, to me, just makes it even more better. Now a sniff of TAS Madras. Of course I love Indian food, music, spiritual philosophy, maybe I was Indian in my past life, or maybe I am preparing to be Indian in my next life, well, hopefully after this one I am Vaikuntha bound, or Brahmalok or similar.
Thanks Dave! Yes we can make a parcel of 200g tins of all varieties and see how it picks up from there. As regards Cheeta white snuff, it is a strong dry snuff just like white elephant ,though I have not yet seen the dholakia white as yet.
Way to GoTom! I can’t stop grinning reading your post.
It’s always seemed to me that Indian culture, in fact most Asian cultures, balance an appreciation for both the sensual and the spiritual, without disrespecting either. It’s a lesson the Western world would be wise to learn. Having said that, however, I must admit that despite repeated attempts, I find Indian food doesn’t suit my palate. But I’m very interested in Indian music and visual arts (especially religious art), in addition to enjoying fine Indian snuffs.
@top502 I feel the same way. I wish sun used their original indian labels as well, or at least something similar. Maybe dave could get a few special order. If I see Hindi text enough I might have to learn the language, or at least the script :).
It’s amazing that you people are really fascinated by our ancient culture and traditions while here back home india is getting westernized by the day. Indians now gorge on a diet of McDonalds, pizzahut and coke etc.Hollywood movies run to full houses and even villagers have started wearing jeans.!!
thnx tom for being so close to india…ur more indian than many indians
And Tom, Sikhs mostly reside in the state of Punjab, that’s where I live. Punjab.
dear vikas i use super kailash…its basically very fine…finely grinded…perfumed…suits my palette…i m hooked…thanx mate for this kool stuff from ur stable
Thanks mate!
@Vikas, It is always the case of being attracted to what is exotic and different, the novelty, why People in the East are fascinated with our culture, and Westerners delight in things from the Orient. We learn much by this cultural exchange.
Vikas- I will be in the UAE next week. As you know, there’s a huge Indian community there, but I’ve never seen Indian snuff for sale. Do you know where I can find it, or can you ship it to me? Otherwise, I’ll be stuck taking green 'dawkhah" and grinding it up again.
guys forget dip…sniffing…sublingual…found a prehistoric way to maximise fun…no twig…half a little snuff on ur palm and brush with ur fingers…its natural…its effective…may sound yuck…untidy…but its super effective…stand on ur wash basin/sink and just do it…
@matero2 we are in talks with a UAE company but no deal has been struck up yet.So I’m not sure where you can find our snuff.Better to carry your stock with you .
@matero2 just came to know that your wife is one of us punjabi -great! from which city? yourself sir ? What can I do for you?
@Vikas Well, she’s actually from the UK, and her father was born in Kashmir, but they are not Kashmiris they are Punjabis originally and they speak Punjabi at home. I don’t feel comfortable bringing my own snuff into the UAE as they can be unreasonable at the airport sometimes. I was once held up over some aspirin in the original container in Doha, so this time I will be very careful not to even carry vitamin suppliments with me.
I am American and my family comes from Spain.
@matero2 interesting Now what help can I be to you?
@Vikas Oh I was just asking about Indian snuffs in the UAE and you answered. If you get any new info please let me know. Thanks
@mr.snuff Excellent!
Arrrgh… the new larger-sized containers of 6 Photo were added just after I placed an order. Damn my lousy timing. Ah, well, better luck next time.
Haha, it happens to me, too! He know all and sees all. That’s what he does up in that air traffic control tower with mirror glass all day long…MESS WITH US!!
Don’t forget to order Cheeta -the Indian white snuff.it’s ultra strong and delivers quickly … just like a Cheeta (leopard) does.
A cheetah is not a leopard. A leopard (and panther which is a black leopard camoflauged for jungles) are generally tree climbing cats, and quite strong and stocky. They generally hunt in trees or from trees. They have to kind of pounce on things they sneak up on becuase they are not fast. A cheetah, the fastest land mammal, looks something like a leopard due to its spot pattern, but is quite svelt and designed for speed. It is not related to leopards, except for being a cat and both coming from Africa. These are generally seen in savannahs and plains hunting gazelles, sprinkboks, zebras, etc. Also a spotted cat, the jaguar, lives in Central and South America. It is unrelated to the others (except for being feline) but its habitat and beahvoir are similar to the leopard’s. The leopard is most closely related to the lion.
@Xander:You have me stumped! I will have to make a thorough study on that . I look forward to your analysis of the Cheeta snuff as well.
@Xander you were right that leopard and cheetah are two different species but in Hindi language we refer to both as cheeta
@Vikas How curious. You’ll have to adjust that! Yes, I hopefully will get to review Cheeta snuff and the rest of the 6 Photo range somtime soon. I’m rather backlogged on getting snuff reviews done.
When someone gets a Cheeta, please post a review of it.
I have an order with 6 photo super kailash and cheeta coming from Mr. Snuff. I will post my observations of it as soon as it arrives. I won’t be so bold as to call it a review, since I’ve never done one, but I’d be happy to tell you what I think of it.
@ Tom As of today, I have acquired my cheeta. I still feel uncomfortable leaving him alone with the kids though he seems friendly and is fond of licking their faces. But shedding,… SON!!( I may be putting him up on the trade- thread soon, fyi.)
Funny are animals but take a look at this:-
Haha!Good one
I kept expecting that dolphin to eat the cat any second.
I guess you overcome your fear of water and danger when you find a friend that BIG that smells like fish.
Lol Xander I was expecting the same thing. Stefan
@Vikas: Thank you for being kind enough to answer all of our questions. I will be ordering the entire selection from Dave very shortly! @mr.snuff: Dave, your selection is becoming so immense that it is nearly impossible to decide on what to order!
@ Xander & Walrus1985, that would be a strange story:- “Fish Eats A Cat” LOL!
Before anyone else says it… I think a dolphin is a mammal…
It is.
Yeah, but they taste like fish.
Boooooooooooooo!
Yep, I knew too. Poetic licence.
OK I know this thread is going of topic, but when I see a dolphin I always think of the Handley Page Victor, V bomber of the 1960’s. See what I mean.
Your not seeing double, this crazy site has shown another side. I find no way to delete the second picture.
Dolphin and whale!!!
Think I got there! one image!
pretty bad-ass looking airplane, snuffhead…
But it proved reliable, and could have done the job.
With respects Dave. Your talking C***. You need two eyes to determine a distance accurately . And in them days they had not the electronics that air crew now have. It was a standing joke, Like in the last war, give the pilots carrots, so they can see in the dark. (Radar had been developed, it had but was secret) Quote, " Flew with an eye patch because the assumption was that nukes would be going off all over Europe and chances were they would be blinded enroute. Flying with one eye covered gave them 2 chances of seeing all the way to target." I think you was in the USA Too long!
Ha!
These topics will now be BANNED from Snuffhouse: 1.religion 2.politics 3.dolphins (and/or anything that resembles a dolphin)
Bart LOL! No Dolphin Aircraft!
Well, …it’s not really fair. Some of the folks on here from Florida actually SPEAK dolphin, John. You may have touched a nerve, LOL!! On topic, I actually am interested in the Cheeta snuff if it leans away from the heavy perfumed. That seems the one thing I have trouble overcoming.
Quote Mr.snuff > “Mind you, this refers to the US.” I REST MY CASE. Ha!
@Snuffhead & @mr.snuff: Lets get back on topic, shall we?
@tom502: no, it was cow and chicken!
@Xander RIGHT!
Anyone have any thoughts on the 6 Photo Special? Is it much different than the 5 Photo?
It seems similar to me, as it is, it’s very good. It seems to me, the 5 and 6 Photos, Himalaya/Kailesh, Super Himalaya/Super Kailesh, and Special, are like efforts to be similar, and I think they are, I don’t know which came first, but both lines are excellent.
@ElvisParsley: We have members from India. Obviously you have never visited India, hence your ignorant statements. I ask that you take a little more care before you post.
I don’t think cstokes is the one we need to get rid of.
You know what though he’s certainly not being a dictator and I have to agree with him totaly with him on this one. I love how on the internet some how not being allowed to act like a little child in a grown-up forum equates to dictatorship. I can’t imagine that there is any where else that such an illogical and idiotic leap would be made so easily. Just my two cents to make sure the trolls don’t starve. I guess I’am a bleeding heart.
I have to say I feel the moderators on this forum are some of the best I’ve seen. They are quick to keep things under control and maintain a friendly environment. That is one of the reasons I enjoy this forum so much, no just the topic but the friendly and helpful atmosphere. My compliments to the moderators and to the members. Trolls need not apply. /rant off
Well EP, when you make idiotic statements that are offensive, they will be deleted. It seems that folks think that since they do not have to look at real people, they can say what they want and get away with it. I have encountered some real tools on the internet, but I’m happy to say that on here the good folks far outweigh the bad. I will continue to moderate SnuffHouse in the best interest of our members, vendors and other staff. Thanks to all for having my back.
@cstokes4 you are more then welcome bro
@cstokes4:thanks mate for your concern .
As regards the discussion regarding 5 photo and 6 photo snuff being similar let me reveal the fact that the founders of both the brands belonged to the same family lineage so it was inevitable the products they made were similar in appearance
Here is a not very funny joke for the long time members. I’am going to start a snuff company called 6 Wilsons.
The mods here do a great job, it’s actually incredibly difficult to get right but when I see a brand new member calling Chris a dictator for doing his job I tend to draw the line. Elvis has left the building.
Huzzah for snuffster!
Thank goodness for that @nigel. All he could ever do was post shite. Stefan
Well its about time, his icon was making me sick. That guy had bigger tits than Pamela Anderson!
You get em once in a while, no big deal. Thanks for the support guys.
Made my Day with that call!!! Bubye! That was the worst avatar ever! On topic - I have quit buying Indian snuffs for a while. I see Tom502 likes the Kailash, any recommended ones in the 6 Photo line with no Menthol? I mean at one time I would just buy them all. But Sun broke me of that habit!
I really liked the Suns when they came out, but then for some reason, I didn’t. I think were too oily, I don’t know what it was, but I couldn’t get a good sniff from them, and I ended up exchanging them off. The only non-menthol 6 photo I know of is, the Cheeta, which I never had.
Glad He’s gone to “Disgrace land”. Not a moment too soon. Thanks cstokes4!
thanks snuffster. I would have kicked him out for the gross pic.
Yeah…He got this thread All shook up, eh? Was nuttin but a hound-dog… Now he can go dance the jailhouse rock…wit his blue suede shoes… sorry…I just felt that we needed a few more elvis puns… lol
@Whalen you might know this already but the menthol in most indian snuffs is done really well – they dont put in nearly as much as european snuff companies do.
@Whalen : the 6 photo range of snuffs will make you love Indian snuffs again, that’s for sure. If you want something without menthol, then go for Cheeta,it is a strong dry snuff without menthol or perfume.
@supsupsup - Thanks.
Nice work on the 6 Photo bundles, Dave. There’s something there for every budget.
6 photo snuff is now picking up with David. Thanks to all of you my snuff friends!!!
Thankyou, Vikas! As soon as Dave lets some more SG 25g tins in his door, I’ll be ordering these to try as well.
What’s up with that plastic thing on the top inside of 6photo cans… took me like 15 minutes to figure out how to open.
Btw I really like that thay have a packaging date on the bottom of their cans. I dont usually suspect snuff is aged any when I get it but with a date on the bottom you can be extra sure at how fresh it is. Mine is 1 month old which is kind of crazy cause it came from India, to Mr Snuff in Britain all the way to the united states.
awesome just ordered the cheeta. Can’t wait to try it and give the report.
@supsupsup the plastic cover is meant to prevent the moisture from drying out. It is to assure that the snuff reaches the customers totally fresh
I just got some Super Kailash. This stuff smells exactly like lightly mentholated Nag Champa.
That’s my fave 6 Photo. Super Himalaya is similar too.
Did anyone get the Cheeta yet? Any reviews?
I got some Cheeta 35 mg. in the mail this afternoon. It came in a substantial continer sealed by a plastic inner lid. The color was between most toasts and D White. Very mild aroma before snuffing. Sort of a baby powder scent , yet difficult to pin down. Finely milled and dry. Having had experience with snuffs of this nature, I carefully took a dose in each nostril and repeated. Very pleasant and it didn’t make me cough. Much easier to take than the D White. I’ve been snuffing for about a year and have sampled a good variety. I am also a smoker and sometimes do both in succesion. After snuffing this Cheeta, I felt my heart beating in my ears and felt no interest in a cigarette for over an hour. I have found no other snuff affect me nic wise like this. My head was spinning pleasantly. Fairly easy to take. Soft aroma and a tremendous nic punch. Those seeking the punch of D White and unable to take it will find this wonderful. Get some it’s good.
@ Mr. Snuff That would be fine.
@jvermilyea:many thanks for your feedback . A Great review!!
@tom502 how does Himilaya compare to Kailash? I havn’t used it a whole lot yet but Kailash is really dense and difficult to pinch (not sure why but I have difficulty with it). On the plus side it doesn’t get all over your nose like Sun snuffs do but I think I prefer snuffs that are a bit lighter and airier.
@ supsupsup thanks for trying our kailash snuff,if you want something lighter then you must tryour super chetak and cheeta brands . Both are dry and lighter than the kailash
@supsupsup It’s been a while since I used Himalaya, as I have been using my Kailesh, but memory tells me they are very similar. I use a small spoon with snuff, and rarely pinch, so I have not done a pinch comparison. As Vikas says, but those are much finer grind than Kailesh too. I prefer the Kailesh.
@tom502:you will notice the difference when you use himalaya after experiencing kailash
cheeta is pretty nice stuff. Though how do I get that plastic part off? The scent really reminds me of the Indian store that used to be around here. When you walked in the smell of inscense and spice would hit you. That is precisely what the cheeta smells like.
Thank you Bob and jvermilyea for sharing. This stuff sounds intriguing!
@bob: Just push down on it, it will release form the tin lip, go slow.
Yesterday discovered that I’m not a big fan of Kailash (yet?), but I like the Super K a great deal. And still in love love love with Anarkali.
@least_weasel It’s taken me awhile to get used to both of the Indian snuffs I have. Hated them (really couldn’t stand them) but now they are my favorite snuffs!
I got it. I used more destructive means. Though this is definatly a rebuy so…
this is to anyone who has had both, how does Cheeta compare to White Elephant?
When my order gets here, I’ll let you know. I have 3 tins of White elephant, tehehehe. edm
If they are even remotely similar then white elephant is awesome.
Guys if you find the plastic lid on 6 photo tins bothersome, then buy 6 photo in plastic tubs of 8g and 45g
not a problem man. Once I found out what to do with it not a problem. Plus you can make it into a custom tap box if you want too. By punching a hole in the plastic.
Yeah, I tore the little plastic thing all apart getting it out but it was no big deal. The Cheeta is really good i think. It and the Super Cheetak are both really good to use as a dip tobacco too.
@redstar you have been missing for a long time! Would like to hear from you.
I’ve been sampling 6 Photo snuff for a few days now and, so far, my favourite is Super Kailesh. It’s like putting a stick of fine incense up my nose, with a really strong nic hit. These Indian snuffs are better than everything else. Great job!
So the two Indian snuffs I have right now (Dholakia Taj and 5 Photo Himalaya) are a bit “heavy” and I can’t really enjoy them earlier in the day (hopefully that will make sense…). I was wondering if any of the 6 Photo line preserve that musky/incensey aroma but not as strong as the 2 snuffs I’ve mentioned. It’s not the smell that doesn’t sit well with me in the mornings… it’s the strength!
I think the Super Kailesh is the “lighter” one, meaning, to me, it’s not as “heavy”. if that makes any sense.
@tom502 thanks, I’ll definitely try it. I love the aroma but Himalaya and Taj just pack too much of a whallop for the early day time.
@Vikas: What makes the Anarkali so black. Also, does this product have anything in common with Kali, even if just in namesake?
Kali is black in color. I don’t know what the anar means. Kali Durga Namo Namaha.
Anarkali was the famous courtesan in Akbar’s court, the doomed lover of his son Salim. It also is type of flower.
Ah, so it’s not about Devi Kali ma, the Ishta Devatva of Sri Ramakrishna Paramahamsa of Dakshinishwar.
Well kala in hindi means black color
I give up trying to follow this conversation LOL!
I agree, sounds interesting but i can’t follow either lol
@Vikas: Thanks!
I wonder how I should feel about being able to follow this conversation, and not being tom or Hindu. Sometimes tom just surprises me with the breadth of what he knows about.
Well, there is a lot I do not know, and I am very rusty these days, as I’ve really been out of the loop for a while. But the subject still interests me, and I do try to read a bit still. But, as I mentioned before, I was a monk in the Gaudiya Vaisnava Hare Krsna ashrama, and did visit a few days at the Vedanta Temple of the Ramakrishna Ashram, and took Sant Mat Surat Shabd Yoga Radhasoami initiation, and am a Swami in the Osho Rajeesh Foundation in Poona. But this was all in the 90’s. Oh, and a short lived effort at heading the American Hindu Foundation in the early '00s, was a good idea I think, but an online ashram just didn’t seem to work out.
@tom502 you are an excellent ambassador for all things Indian !!!
Thanks, Just a hobbiest largely, but I believe sincere. Now for some Kailesh.
I ordered the 6 Photo Plus Bundle from mrsnuff last thursday, with any luck it will be here today!
Yes, my package was waiting at work! I have had a pinch of them all and they are all delicious!
I wish there was more about hindu for average guys like me. I find the Indian culture fascinating but am never exposed as i live in southern Missouri. I love the stories though. The demi-gods and gods are really interesting to learn about too, but it is very complex.
@thendrix if you have Netflix (or a sweet library near by) check out the documentary Phantom India by Louis Malle. It’s not a narrated history or even an informational documentary, he simply went around India and shot tons of incredible footage that gives a glimpse into the lives of the extremely diverse people of India. It’s in six 1-hour “episodes” that originally aired on French television.
@thendrix65804: Pick up a copy of the Bhagavad Gita, the Ramayana, Mahabarata. The internet has a wealth of information as well. A book that got me started was “Hinduism for Dummies.” As cliche as it sounds, it helped me wrap my head around the culture. Also, go to a temple. The people are friendly and willing to help westerners learn the traditions.
Also ask a hindu. I know a decent amount of information about India a lot of it just by asking about it. One of the things that shocked me is how diverse the culture really is. It makes the diffrence between someone in L.A. and LA look like not a diffrence at all. (oh if that LA bit doesn’t make sense then let me explain L.A.= Los Angles LA equals the southern state.)
@thendrix65804 Nice avatar btw! M26 Lemon Grenade!
I know ones taste for snuff changes quite a lot over time, but ever since I tried the Super Kailesh I have been hooked. Such a nice flavour, easy to take and great nic-kick. Plus I enjoy the look of the tin, seems really exotic and cool as I don’t understand anything lol.
One big appeal to me, based on design, is I like my Indian snuff containers to look like Indian snuff containers.
@tom502 agreed! 5 Photo and 6 Photo tub labels have a great design.
@tom502 I absolutely agree too. I think the Dholakia ‘western’ design tap boxes are somewhat a marketing mistake. They should’ve kept it more ‘Indian’. Thats why I quite like their packets.
I like the dholakia packages a lot actualy. I think they are tastefull and subtle.
@bob they are simply a means of not drawing attention to any flashiness and focus on the content. I must admit, the only reason I bought any 5 Photo in the first place is because I wanted to look at it on my shelf (although I love it to death now).
I can dig that. I’ve bought more then a few snuffs because I thought nice packaging hopefully the snuff is great too.
I’m willing to bet money that if Dave were to offer the Dholakia Indian snuffs in their original packaging the sales would go up. I detest the “westernized” tubs and taps. And sadly this stops me from buying it.
I wonder if any snuff is made in Pakistan?
Maybe, I kinda doubt it though. Most of the snuff from Tibet and China comes from India, probably the same way for Pakistan.
@Pakistan pakistan has had some fairly extreme laws in some respects in the past so it wouldn’t surprise me if they are not even allowed to manufacture snuff. for example, in the 70’s the government (apparently) banned western music.
They do have this stuff called Naswar, and there is a Pakistan Tobacco Company. I suspect they do have dry snuff, but it may be small local makers.
Cool, thanx for the info on the movies and books guy’s. I will have to make an extra trip to the library this week.
Guys you would all be very surprised to know that the type of snuff we make , the moist black snuff our town GIDDARBAHA is famous for, originated from Pakistan. My forefathers initially imported this stuff from Pakistan and added flavors to it before they learned the technique to make it themselves.
Snuff is indeed called naswar in Pakistan and in northern India
Thanks for the info Vikas! The Dholakia Taj says Naswar on it.
Pakistan is a large exporter of tobacco. I know some snuff companies buy from there. I doubt if their government would restrict that too much. There’s too much money in it. Chris, do you have the Dholakia snuffs in little sachet type packets? They should be easy enough to find if you want them for a collection. I may have one or two spares.
Yep, I have all of the sachets. The tubs of each snuff look a bit different than the bags. I guess I’m just a vain snuffer.
I miss the dholakia sachets. I liked the designs, made them look neat.
You can get the sachets from here http://www.snuff.me.uk/Dholakia-Snuff.asp .
How big is buddhism in India? I hate to be biased as I know very little about Hinduism but Buddhism is pretty cool and supposedly originated in India.
I’m not sure, but I think Islam, and Sikhism is bigger than Buddhism in India. But India does have a large Buddhist segment, I think mainly Theravada. I like Buddhism quite a lot too.
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia: India is the birth place of four of the world’s major religious traditions; namely Hinduism, Jainism, Buddhism and Sikhism. … Buddhism is a dharmic, nontheistic religion and philosophy. Buddhists form majority populations in the Indian states of Arunachal Pradesh, and the Ladakh region of Jammu and Kashmir and a large minority (40%) in Sikkim. Around 8 million Buddhists live in India, about 0.8% of the population. Full article: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Religion\\_in\\_India Ok. Quick Mod note: So far the comments regarding religion has been neutral, which is acceptable, but please lets not delve any further into the subject, and keep this thread on topic.
An interesting point about religion in that area of the world is that the three largest populations of Muslims reside in Asian countries–not the Middle East as one might think. The top three, respectively, are Indonesia, Pakistan, and India.
6 Photo Snuff is great though, and I like what I know of Sufism, andNusrat Fateh Ali Khan really rocks.
@Micheltn: thanks for choosing 6photo In India super kailash and super chetak are widely used as dentrifice while Cheeta’s use is more nasal
I find that even the Indian snuffs intended for dental use are great in the nose (although on the moist side)
So, I have been curious about the relationship of 5 Photo and 6 Photo snuff. Same mill? Same company? Completely separate? (if so, then why the similar names?) Thanks. I have tried 5 Photo Himalaya before and I have my first 6 Photo snuffs coming in the mail (Super Chetak, Kailash, and Super Kailash).
Vikas explained that many people in India cannot read, so they used pictures to identify the brands. There is also a 50 photo snuff out there.
interesting! thanks.
It also makes for very pretty cans!
cstokes, do you have a picture of this 50 photo snuff? i couldn’t find anything when I googled it.
http://www.indiamart.com/pachaasphotosnuff/profile.html http://aroraproduct.com/index.html http://www.umasnuff.com/ http://www.umbrellasnuff.com/ http://snuffwork.com/ http://www.sixphotosnuff.com/cgi-bin/getPage.pl?lang=en&id=1501 http://www.snuffindia.com/ http://www.indiansnuff.com/contact-us.htm
That is all the Indian snuff companies that I can find. I know there are a ton more that do not have websites.
Here is one more that I know of: http://www.vartak-snuff.com/
Very nice, thanks!
@cstokes thanks for the comprehensive list! I have a (very) far-off trip to India planned and I’m going to buy as much snuff as they (government, airports, whatever) will allow me to bring back.
@cstokes Those are great looking snuffs. Now i have to try and figure out how to get some of them. dang it.
I’d love to go to Goa or Mumbai one day, the only thing that would hold me back is the plane trip.
from what I hear, Goa is nothing special unless you are more comfortable being around a bunch of tourists rather than Indians. There are lots of beautiful places there though. I plan to do an extensive backpacking trip and take trains all over Northern India for 6 months or more.
The Arora snuffs look really nice.
Just tried my first 6 Photo snuff after falling in love with 5 Photos and Dholakia Taj. Super Chetak. It is blowing me away. Perfect moisture and grind for my taste and the perfuming is a bit more subtle than Himalaya which is a nice change of pace. This is going to be an all-day snuff for a while. The nicotine hit is surprisingly large as well.
Try the Cheeta, a white Indian snuff that actually smells like something other than dead fish.
The super chetak is great! Enjoying cheeta, hint of fragrance with a note of barnyard.
Curious about the markings on the bottom of this Super Chetak tin. It says “Rs. 15-00.” Does this mean that this snuff retails for 15 rupees??? If so… that’s absolute insanity! I would buy 20 cases if I were in India! Also, these tins are beautiful. I much prefer the picture of the scorpion to the ugly health warnings on European and American snuff.
I believe that is the case, but you have to consider the market. Charging much more would be insane, because you would destroy an chance at broad appeal. While many Indians are certainly becoming very rich, it’s not evenly spread, and the per capita income still remains around $1000 a year. So, your average Indian is living off Rs. 122 per day.
Right, I’m aware of all that. I just want to know how much snuff I can get away with taking on a plane back to the states from India before they try to tax it 15 rupees, for those who aren’t going to bother with the conversion, is 33 cents USD.
Pike Mopers Welcome to the world of six photo snuff!!
I’m ordering Super Kailash, Cheeta, and more Super Chetak soon! thanks for the welcome
Got my Super Chetak tin on Friday… it’s Sunday and I’ve burned through about 15 grams Luckily they are large tins! I may have to inquire about a case in the future…
I just received my 6 Photo Sampler Plus from mr. snuff and I am so glad I bought it! Kailash and Super Kailash are similar in flavor to 5 Photo Himalaya and Super Himalaya but the Kailashes actually stay in my nose instead of making it run like a river after 30 seconds. Cheetah is just amazing. Perfect white snuff IMO with very (VERY) subtle floral scents. And Super Chetak will remain an all-day snuff for a long time. Very glad to see Mr Snuff supplying the 200g tubs for my future purchases!
@pike Mopers thanks for the compliments.!! When you visit India try coming to GIDDARBAHA
I’d like to live in India and work in a snuff company.
^ I second that, tom!
Both of you are welcome
What is your favorie 6 Photo Snuff? I have not tried Cheeta. But I prefer the medium grind snuffs. I think I like Special more than Kailesh. But I like Super Kailesh more than kailesh too. I think maybe Super and Special tie for me. Oh, almost forgot about Anakali… I think that one ties with Kailesh for me. Super Chetak was too fine grind for my preference. I suspect Cheeta is too.
Cheeta is very fine and dry. Pleasant but needs to be taken carefully.
Yeah, that’s what I heard. If a snuff is so super fine, and dry, I just don’t enjoy it as much, as I have to super carefully sniff, and then only a dot’s worth, or it goes straight to the lung. I like a medium grind, like Kailesh where I can whiff up a decent amount and it stays in for the most part.
@tom502 Cheetah and Super Chetak are just about the only snuffs I’ve been using lately. Cheetah makes D. White look like candy and Super Chetak is the most amazing blend of burn, nicotine, menthol, and flavoring that I’ve ever come across. My next order from Mr. Snuff will be 2 pounds of Super Chetak and 1/2 pound of Cheetah.
I have to chim in and agree. The super chetek is awesome. Will be ordering a bulk canister soon. The cheeta is great too. I need to get a big tin of the super kalish and some special. I have tried the others but in small sachets so i didnt really get a great idea of long term snuffing. They seem really good though.
So I’m almost to the bottom of my tins of 25g Kailash and Super Kailash and I’ve noticed there is a lot more menthol towards the bottom then when I first started using it. In general the flavor seems to have slowly changed, getting dominated by the menthol. Not necessarily a bad thing just kind of interesting.
Just saw this thread for the first time… What a change in attitude from page 1 to page 2 ! What can I say except: “Quality will out!”
thanks for the appreciation guys! it keeps us going. as about menthol getting dominant,it may be because after a certain amount of time the flavors start to decline. check your can for packing date
Well I’m not trying to complain~~ My theory is when there’s only a little bit left in the bottom there’s a lot of air in the can so I figure it starts to lose flavor. That and whatever snuff is left gets shaken up a lot. Maybe next time I’ll move it to another container
Extremely pleased with my recent order of 6 Photo Cheeta. The scent is f$&*#@g amazing! Didn’t really know what to expect, but it exceeded any idea of what I thought it would be.
Could someone please explain to me about shipping 500g and above packages?
