…please tell me which of your variants are taken orally ? I am curious to try it that way and i know that in India many people do it that way. You got some which are taken this way as well ? How use people over there use them orally ? Any hints will make me happy. Cheers.
I think they all can, more or less. I’ve seen people put their finger in their mouth, dab it into some snuff, and then rub their gums and teeth with it. Don’t know if some people use brushes as well or instead.
Super Chetak and Super Kailash are both good orally.
The story that I’ve gotten from Indian friends is that people dip their fingertip into the snuff and rub it onto their gums.
@howdydave agreed fully— most I’ve talked to dip it— as a matter-of-fact, one yesterday told me so at the market

as some members have pointed out .in India most of the snuff is used as a dentifrice, people take out some snuff on the palm and then dab their forefinger in it and rub it on gums and teeth. Kailash is our best selling snuff in India but personally I prefer LA natural
Ah so THAT’S how it’s done. I always kind of wondered how exactly they rubbed it, whether they grabbed a “pinch” of snuff and threw it in their mouth like we’d do in the states, etc. How much snuff do they typically use - just a little pinch like you would sniff, or larger amounts? Pretty funny that black snuffs are popular as tooth powders, they’re so messy! I’m going to try this right now with the black 41 Photo. Worked pretty well, surprisingly clean, no brown/black on my teeth after rinsing very briefly; maybe I’m imagining it but my teeth look slightly whiter like after you brush. I still like sniffing it more but I can see how people could acquire the tooth-rubbing habit in other countries.
Here’s a query - would Indians think it was weird to sniff something like 6 Photo Anarkali, or are they still seen there as dual-use products, even though sniffing isn’t much in fashion anymore?
OK, my interest is peaked–going to go rub my teeth with Chetak…well, that was actually quite pleasant. IDK if it will replace the Colgate, but my teeth do feel cleaner and I like the sensation.
I’ve never tried the use of Indian snuffs like 6P as a dental type snuff. But after reading posts in various threads I’m thinking I shall give it a go. 6P Special, Motia & Anarkali would be the ones I would try I think. Plus some recent discoveries to me are “Krushna photo brand” & “Gulab Sugandh Sagar Rose” which also might be quite nice to try as a dental snuff.
Give it a shot! I think Chetak Moist is actually more designed for that purpose–it was almost muddy when I got it–a couple days with the cover off has dried it a bit. It is very coarse and it “squeaks” on the teeth like toothpaste so there must be some form of mild abrasive in it.
so put a regular pinch in my hand, then rub it into gums? im not sure what im doing here, but i want to try it haha.

Vikas, Let me see if I’ve got this right… By dentifrice you mean a powder used to _ clean the teeth?_ Doesn’t that cause nicotine stains?
It’s weird, the Chetak is jet black but rinsed right out and teeth felt about as clean as from Colgate. Snuff in palm, wet finger, scrub teeth, rinse. Haven’t tried it with a toothbrush yet. Gives a really nice tingling sensation. Perhaps the Indians are onto something! No flouride, though (for god or bad, depending upon your views).
It seems that work…
I use tooth powder consisting mostly of calcium carbonate and sodium bicarbonate. It also has floride.
best snuffs for this? i have anarkali, cheeta, 41p WE, dholakia black…? i might try rubbing the WE on my teeth before i next clean them. this makes me want to try using these and scotches for gums too… how do i go about that?
The traditional way for scotches in America is to use a “dip stick”. You put one end of the stick into your mouth to get it wet. Next you dip it into the snuff – snuff will adhere to the saliva. Next you rub the stick on your gums. I’ve never witnessed it myself, but you might want to start with something like a popsicle stick.
US scotches have also been traditionally used as a dentifrice. This is why a pair of them are named “Dental” they were even invented by a dentist. Tobacco does have a whitening ability, in addition to the abrasive nature of the powder, however they do wear down tooth enamel. So every time you “clean” your teeth with this method, you are actually weakening them. Also in days gone by, it was also common to hear of someone having a “rub” of snuff as it was to have a “dip” of snuff, meaning rubbing it on the gums.
I find 7photo swami works pretty well for this, seems to clean and leave a nice tingling feeling. Most Indian snuffs I have come across seem to be be aimed for dentin rice, based on all the health labels alone

White snuffs and Dholakia snuffs generally are designed for sniffing AFAIK. Dholakia tins always say “nasal snuff” but I’m sure some of them would be good on the gums, idk, I mostly only use white and black which are definitely nasal. Anarkali would be perfect though.
