Hi everyone… Our company KHETU RAM BISHAMBER DAS(PM) manufactures 5 Photo Snuff and some of our famous blends are Himalaya Snuff, Super Himalaya Snuff and Special Snuff. Pls visit our website at www.snuffindia.com. Regards Dhrruv

C

dhrruv, nice to see you here. One of our members was gracious enough to send us some Himalaya snuff. Is there any way your snuffs will be available for sale in the USA like Dholakia and Sun?

T

Hi, and welcome to the forum. Please seek a possibility for a USA online distributer/seller, so we may purchase your snuffs. I would like them all. I have an old Himalaya tin now, and like it alot.

S

Yes it is good snuff. I had chance to try some of ermtony’s in our local pub last night thanks to the generosity of Red Star.

T

I requested free samples forever ago, and never received anything, or even a reply.

T

I was told that the metal Himalaya cans that I have, and have sent to others here, are a bit old, and I suspect they must be using a new plastic tub now.

X

Tom, the one you sent was had writing on the inside of the tin. It seemed to have once been part of a larger storage/shipping box. I guess they cut the incoming boxes up and reshape them into little tins.

D

Dear all I would want everyone of you to try one of our blends called Super Himalaya Snuff…It has been very successful in China…Unlike Himalaya Snuff, this blend is golden in color and would be a bit rough owing to the strong tobacco used in it…The smell of menthol would also be a little less but the life is much more than Himalaya Snuff Regards Dhrruv

T

Yeah, that shop where I got those has/had a box of 10 of those tins, and a bunch loose tins. I thought about getting the box if it was a bargain, but it wasn’t any better.

T

Dhrruv, thanks, I would like to that and the others. Please see if it’s possible you can let MrSnuff or Nicotinerush carry your snuffs for us. I just bought 5 kinds of Sun Snuffs from an American online seller today.

X

@ dhrruv: can samples be requested from your website?

T

I tried that long ago, but never got anything, or a reply.

C

I love the Himalaya, and wouldn’t mind trying some of the other products.

T

What is the signifigance(spell?) of the various Photo brands of snuff? 5 Photo, 6 Photo, and I also saw a 2 Photo? Are they connected in any way? I noticed they have that many pictures of people on the snuff cans. Is this the lineage parampara of said snuff company?

D

Dear Tom 5 Photo was the first brand to have the word photo in it…It was started in the year 1915 in the State of Punjab in India…Due to the huge success of this brand many manufacturers entered the market with brand names like 2 Photo, 6 Photo, 7 Photo, 9 Photo, 41 Photo, 50 Photo etc etc…None of these brands are older than 5 Photo…They have their manufacturing units in a village in Punjab…There is no relation of 5 Photo with these brands… Regards Dhrruv

T

Thanks. Being it seems there is ALOT of snuff makers in India, I have found many websites, though their products are hard to find in the US. As a nasal snuff, how popular is snuff usage in India?

Y

Sorry to revive an old thread. Does anyone know when I can acquire some of the Himalaya in the States? Thanks.

T

@Yimes…Actually this was a fantastic thread revival…I was completly unaware of this particular snuff! Good find! The Wiz!

T

I have access to 5 Photo Himalaya Snuff, Madras Snuff, and an Indian made Rose snuff. These are at an Indian grocery near an Indian buffet place I go to sometimes. These are on the other side of town from me, and it’s been a while since I’ve been there, and don’t know when I will again, but I am sure I will sometime. If anyone wants these, let me know what you want, and I’ll try and keep a mental track of it, and pick them up and mail them upon payment.

T

@tom502…Thanks! I have an Indian grocery store right down the street from me…going to give them a try this week and see if they may have some also!! The Wiz!

N

My sales receipt from Nicotine Rush shipped this morning is showing 5 Photo as the sample so I’d expect to see it there soon.

T

If NicRush gets these, I’d suspect he will get fresh new cans. The ones I have access to seem fine to me, and everyone else that got them, but they are a bit old on the shelf.

C

The Himalaya is superb!

B

I’ve placed an order. Just waiting for confirmation!

C

The Himalaya smells like a head shop.

B

those were the days!

P

Any idea on the ETA for these? Should I wait before I order again, or is it going to be a few weeks?

P

Tom comes thru again!! Please let us know when you get these in. I hope you ordered enough. Thank you Tom PP lmao yea those were the days alright.

B

It will be a while. Still have not received confirmation. Probably at least a month.

K

Has anyone ever tried (or even seen) these M/s. Ranchhoddas Zinabhai Dholakia snuffs anywhere in the U.S.? http://www.snuffwork.com/home.htm Their perfumed snuffs do look intriguing. I wonder if these are even available outside of India.

T

@kjoerup: Upon checking the link you posted here…free samples are available to those who send a "detailed"e-mail of some sort(I would assume one’s reason for using snuff or curiosity in regards to thier snuff).Just wonder if anyone has taken advantage of this offer?..I myself would like to get my hands on some! The Wiz!

T

I sent an email LONG ago, and never received anything, or a reply.

T

@tom502: I am going to write them in hindi and see if I get better results…LOL! The Wiz!

T

Try it!

B

though for all we know they sent tom some samples and they just have not gotten here yet.

D

Hi everyone Tom from Nicotine Rush would have our snuff blends by the mid of January 2010… Regards Dhrruv

S

Great news!

J

I would like to know. Who is in the photos? He looks like Sant Kirpal Singh Ji to me.

C

Tom, Any idea when these will be in?

B

Wish I did. It’s en-route.

N

Soon I hope,I’m rationing but the will grows weaker.

O

Can anyone tell me what the predominant scent in the Himalaya is? Patchouli? What? I just tried a pinch for the first time from a sample received from Tom/Nicotinerush and I can’t place it. Would like to know so as to help guide future purchases. Yes it absolutely reminds me of all the headshops and import marts I’ve ever been into.Ever. As in, the totality of all the smells from all the visits, all at once! And that was a small pinch! Suffice it to say this is one I will take a pass on. Entirely to overpowering and cloying of a perfume, incense for my preference.

O

Bump for curious Can anyone tell me what the predominant scent in the Himalaya is? Patchouli? What?

J

A secret I’m sure, but patchouli may very well be in the mix along with sandalwood, champa, menthol, myrh, and who does know what exotic combinations they do? The hippie chicks dig it. I think balanced was the purveyors description.

B

I’m sure it’s a quality snuff, I’m just having a hard time getting close to that strong of a scent.

T

You fans of Himalaya, I really recommend getting Sun Snuff Pari. They just seem similar to me, even the color.

O

Interesting Juxtaposer, I wonder if the Champa is what sits up front… But as with Bart, it is just way too strong overall for me. I opened the smash box again last night for a second chance sampling. Not happening I’m afraid. Thanks for the comparison to the Sun Pari tom, any others your aware of that have such a huge smell to em’?

K

@Tom: Oh my god thank you soo much for pointing the Sun snuffs out! I picked up Sher, Rasili, and Pari, and Pari really is the most similar to the 5 Photo! Moist, dark, and heavenly perfumed! They all smell incredibly good. Why didn’t I pick these up sooner? Well, I didn’t know!~

L

I went to several large Indian grocery stores in the Indian section of my city this afternoon and asked for this stuff, and they didn’t have the faintest idea what I was talking about. At any rate, I’m still relying on Tom’s smash box samples of both the light and the dark (I can’t remember the official names of each) and hoping that it will be available for sale soon. In the meantime, I can think of a lot of things that are pretty illegal that are much easier to get ahold of than the 5Photo Himalaya snuff.

N

“In the meantime, I can think of a lot of things that are pretty illegal that are much easier to get ahold of than the 5Photo Himalaya snuff.” Maybe thats why we’re jonesing and it hasn’t made it thru Customs? Oh well,I think I’ll Just go order some Methadone I mean Pari and hope the 5 Photo shows soon.

N

I am very interested in trying these snuff, I look forward to ordering some.

L

“Maybe thats why we’re jonesing and it hasn’t made it thru Customs? Oh well,I think I’ll Just go order some Methadone I mean Pari and hope the 5 Photo shows soon.” Luckily, I still have two smash boxes of the Special and one of the Super, and two packages of Pari so I’m not jonesin’ too bad…yet. I tried the Super (the drier, lighter colored one) before the Special (the darker moister one) and now I think I slightly prefer the Special. According to the website, the Special comes in a 1 kilo package in addition to the smaller sizes. Wouldn’t that be nice. http://www.snuffindia.com/products.html

D

Hi All Two of our blends our available at nicotinerush.com which are Super Himalaya Snuff and Raja Snuff. The Himalaya Snuff and Special Snuff would be available in the next 10-15 days… Thank you so much for your support… Regards

T

OK, 2 day Tom(Nic-rush) performed again, and yesterday I had all 4 of the newly available 5 Photo snuffs. I must say, I am very impressed with them. The 1st one I tried was Super Himalaya, and it’s very nice, with a very incense like smell, it reminds me of this incense I had long ago called Yang Lang? Or something like that, it was spelled odd, if I recall. Anyway, to me, this smells like that, with a subtle menthol. It’s very good. The I tried the Special Snuff, and it’s darker, both of these were very fresh, had a 2010 date on the bottom, and packed full. The Special Snuff is hard to describe, as I’m not sure of it’s scent, but it’s very nice, and maybe a bit more mentholated, but very crisp and envigorating cooling, mixed with the scents, it’s really great. Both of these are great. I have not yet opened the Himalaya Snuff, as I have an older metal can of it, I found at an Indian store, so I know that’s a great one too. I also have not yet opened the Raja 5. So, if the other 5 Photo snuff becomes available, I’ll get that one too. I just love Indian snuffs, I’m an Indophile, Hindu, love the food, music, art. Never been there though.

S

Ylang ylang. I never figured out hth it’s pronounced though. I love Indian stuff, too; my parents followed Maharaj Ji in the seventies, maybe some of it rubbed off on me.

T

I was a Hare Krishna monk in the early 90’s.

A

I like and respect Sikhs and Sikhism as religion and culture, I know several Sikhs here in Ireland. As countries Pakistan and India are quite unknown to me.

N

@dhrruv Hey, hi. I am from Mumbai and managed to get the Himalaya snuff from my local store. Is there any distributor who I can buy other snuffs from your range in Mumbai? Thanks.

N

^ good luck he hasn’t been active for many years, even online snuff distributers cant get a hold of him anymore which is why they no longer carry 5 Photo snuffs.

Z

I still have an unopened tin of Pari. One of my prized possessions

N

Had several of the 5photo offerings and didn’t like any of them! Offed them to @spyder almost 2 years ago. Haven’t heard hide nor hair from him In ages! (Maybe has new avatar).

J

I saw this thread after it came back to life and went through my obscure Indian snuffs collection, acquired in Lhasa. I found that I have 100 grams or so of 5 Photo Himalaya. I remember when I got it, I found it excessively perfumed, but now I think it’s fantastic. It’s a lovely colour, a vibrant light brown, a bit on the yellowish side. After being in storage for a long time, it had clumped a lot, but easy enough to flatten out. Quite fine, a strong burn, but easy enough to take. Quite strong, the way most Indian snuffs I’ve tried always seem to be. I’ve got no idea what the scent is, a very small touch of menthol or mint, quite sweet, maybe a touch of cloves, some pachouli and a nice buttery taste (although I don’t think it’s really got ghee in it). Despite some comments talking about “Indian incense” … well, there is more than a hint of that, but not JUST that.
