Perhaps some of you would find this interesting. Last month, while waiting for my first MrSnuff order, I threw together a simple tap box model in Fusion 360. This design has a small pea sized chamber near the top under the sliding lid. With a quick flick of the wrist the chamber is filled with the same amount of snuff every time. This makes it easy to use even in the dark, you always know how much taps out into your boxcar.

This picture shows a couple versions printed in multiple sizes, and one fresh still on the build plate.

Here’s a video of it in action

Technical Details:

Printer - Heavily modified Folger Tech Prusa I3

Filament - Hatchbox 1.75mm PLA

Temps - Hotend 195 Bed 55

Slicer - Simplify3d

Layer Height 0.2mm

Modeled in Fusion 360

Size (As designed) 35mm 12mm 52mm

Size (Green one used in video) 39mm 13mm 57mm (10% larger)

S

Huzzah!  Looks really cool, man.  Any chance of sharing the model?  =)

A couple questions:

  1. Does snuff cling to the “stacked” texture of the inner chamber?
  2. How many ml does the box hold?  Do you think a smaller version would work as well?
  3. Are you aware of the extent of your badassery?
N

@SHbickel

I’ll get the model up on thingiverse when i cleanup the ugly mess of intersecting angles under the lid.

  1. Yes some snuff does fill the grooves between layers (0.2mm layer height). Usually just the fine/dry stuff but even then I have rinsed one out let it dry and changed flavors without a noticeable lingering scent.

  2. I’ll get a measurement for you tonight when i return from work. My guess is the smallest is around 5-8ml and the larger ones near 10ml. This should scale relatively well. It was modeled after the “Djeep” lighters that fit nicely in my hand. (did you have a size in mind?)

  3. Thanks! Just wait until my ‘automatik’ box is ready for print…

D

Are you selling prototypes?  :))

N

@Direwolf You know, i had not really thought about that. I plan to post the model soon on thingiverse. I’ll PM you when i get home.

S

5-8ml is a great size!  I like to carry multiple boxes for variety, so the smaller the better imo.

B

AWESOME B-) Zippo lighter size would be great.

M

Dude this is awesome! The screw tins are good but these would be better for carry. I’ve ordered a few tap boxes and a air tight plastic container that I store my medicated # 666 in.

S

If snuff gets in that snuff chamber well enough, that would be a pretty cool tap box.  Maybe you wouldn’t even need to tap it out - snuff right off the box?

N

@basement_shaman Thanks man! The green one in the video is right about the size of a zippo.

@mrsniffles Thank you man. Yeah tins are great but unfortunately i can’t pinch at work with gloves on. With this i can either remove only one glove, tap onto my wrist, or even snuff it right from the box.

@SeanOCDPx the snuff sits in the chamber very securely and yes you can even snuff it right out of the chamber. It’s just quick flip, slide open, snuff, and back into the pocket it goes.

N

@SHbickel Just did a liquid volume test on the smaller of the printed copies it has a max capacity of 10ml. However the “flick to fill” does best with some empty space near the top. That said, i would guess around 8ml comfortably.

N

As for the issue mentioned

“1. Does snuff cling to the “stacked” texture of the inner chamber?”

One solution to this would be to change plastics and do post processing. These were all printed in PLA, plant based plastics. If printed in ABS an acetone vapor bath would smooth the layers and create a sealed surface. Unfortunately ABS is difficult to print on my setup, no enclosure, drafty room, underpowered heated bed, not to mention my spools of abs absorbing moisture here in the rainy PNW.

H

That’s awesome can u let me know if you’re selling them.I’m very much interested.can u send me the info if you are selling them. I appreciate your time reading this. Thanks and Aloha :-c

H

Also interested, PM me with any info. I can paypal you a donation B-)

D

PLA?

Are they biodegradable?

N

@DireWolf as a matter of fact this PLA filament is biodegradable, and made from renewable sources, and is recyclable (both mechanical and chemical)!

D

Green Snuffing!  :))

N

Hey everyone! I spent a while after work fixing up the angles under the lid. I’m going to print a few overnight. I’ll check the prints in the morning. If everything looks good i’ll upload them to thingiverse and come back here with an edit including the link.

S

@Noisebox That is super cool and much appreciated, sir.  I have a few buddies that’ll love to try out their kit printers on this (with perhaps a little arm twisting on my part).  haha

D

@Noisebox - I can open this forum on my laptop and reply, but responding to your PM seems to be blocked by IT as an “Entertainment” site.  Vanilla (not a fan of this forum software) doesn’t seem to agree with my tablet, so though I can read threads, it will not let me type anything - no cursor/keyboard will pop up.

Not sure the problem for mobile, but I’m trying to respond - interested though for sure.

N

The print from last night looks great so i’ve uploaded and published the model here http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1313422

N

Just pulled this one off the build plate. Messing around with adding some personalization and labels.

Unfortunately looks like my retraction settings were a bit too aggressive and my extruder stepper may have skipped some steps, *sigh* calibration is a never ending process.

S

Ooo, the labeled lids are a good idea.

P

Just throwing my name into the ring as another interested party. If you’re selling these, feel free to PM me with info. Thanks!

N

I’m on a roll today!

Added another neat feature. Now you can use the “flick to fill” method to load either the previous tap box chamber, or you can use it to load a secondary “flick to spoon” chamber and use the lid as a spoon to scoop a dose with.

Video of the “flick to spoon” chamber

For those of you who expressed interest in getting one of these i am working toward a final version. Also modeling a few customizable options. When i get an idea of my costs and shipping i’ll start PMing and update this thread

R

I would be interested also in a few.

S

I would also be keenly interested in these awesome tap boxes.

S

So have you tried the flick-to-fill chamber with all types of snuff @Noisebox.  This is kind of where I was going with my previous post on the topic, but I’m curious if it would work with say, a schmalzler.

N

@SeanOCDPX I don’t have any schmalzer to try but i have used these with a variety of grinds and moisture level snuffs from WoS IHT #22, Tom Buck, Rose of Sharrow, Elmo’s Private Reserve, Santo Domingo, SG Kendal Brown Original, OM Marlin Spike, OM Moulin Rouge. So far i have not run into a problem with any particular type. As with most tap boxes i recommend not putting more than a day or two worth of snuff in them, as they’re not sealed the snuff does tend to dry out.

Edit: I should mention that the flick force necessary to load the chamber will vary some between snuffs. Lighter is better, only enough to “toss” some snuff from the bottom chamber into the top chambers. And of course this version 2 is meerly a prototype and will be going through revisions. I also noticed it’s somewhat awkward to use the spoon as you have to rotate the box in your hand to access the chamber (to be fair i don’t snuff with a spoon ever)

D

I have some schmalzers you can try.

Nice looking boxes though.

N

@DireWolf Sounds great!

Thanks, I’m looking forward to getting them into someone’s hands to give me more feedback.

1

Absolutely interested. Don’t own a tapbox of any sort yet

S

Thanks for responding to that @Noisebox.  This design is looking to be pretty popular.  Maybe it’ll pay off that 3D printer!  If you own it… I know nothing about 3D printing…

N

General Update - Over the weekend i finalized version 1 of the FlickBOX prototype and my printer (PrintBOX) has been busy with build plates full of them in various colors. This first run will be limited and is focused on getting these into people’s hands for feedback. When it comes time to take orders it would be more appropriate for me to open a new thread in the Snuffhouse Bazaar and keep this thread focused on the model itself. Anyone who has already expressed interested herein will be PM’d and offered early access to the limited quantities.

N

@SeanOCDPx Since that response i did acquire some Schmalzer. I’ll load up a FlickBOX with some Poschl-A today and report back to you.

I’m honestly flattered by all the interest in these. Already my inexpensive printer has paid for itself in entertainment and educational value alone.  If i were to make some beer money and give back to the snuff community at the same time it’ll be icing on the cake. Who knows maybe y’all will help me build my next printer that will be faster with higher quality prints in a greater range of materials!

S

@Noisebox , you’re freakin’ awesome!  Next up: the Perfect Snuff Spoon ™  :)>-

B

N

@Basement_Shaman Without saying too much, great minds think alike  ;)

B

Now only if there could be an inverted reservoir with a push to load dose incorporated somehow .

N

@SeanOCDPx The Polsch-A worked well in the FlickBOX. Overall it did require a bit more flick to load the chamber. I did find it occasionally needed a few shakes to break up clumps before loading. The dose chamber seems to be 1/2 a pinch of schmalzler for me, I think as a result of the moisture and grind. Whereas the chamber doses out a full “pinch” of toast i.e. both nostrils.

S

Cool @Noisebox.  If it works for schmalzlers then I image it will for any snuff.

J

Slightly late to the party here, but I’m definitely interested too!

R

I am totally looking forward to see your Automatikbox !!! It would be awesome to get one too. Let us know.

N

With a batch made up in each color i decided to snap a family picture with a few tins of various sizes for scale.

S

Wow, dude, those look so good.  I feel all tingly.  ;))

B

Fancy!

S

They look nice and compact.  Most are a bit large for my consumption.  Glad I got a Snuffhouse.org box when I did.  I’d definitely buy one (or more) of these if you ever sell.

N

@SeanOCDPx Everyone gushes about those snuffhouse.org boxes, as a new comer around these parts i didn’t even know what i was missing until it was too late. I have my fingers crossed they’ll do another production run of them!

S

Is this box the same as the snuffhouse.org box? https://mrsnuff.com/black-plastic-snuff-p-3513.html

S

@SHbickel - I don’t have a ruler handy, but I’m pretty sure that black box is a good deal bigger than the Snuffhouse.org boxes.

@Noisebox - the thing I like about them most is the size.  They’re about 1/2 the size of every other plastic snuff box I have, but still big enough to pinch from.  I got it on ebay in July when I first got into snuff and joined Snuffhouse.  It was like the last one the guy had.  There have been threads and plenty of people hoping for their return… but no word.

H

Put me down for a black one first den a blue, reds my last choice. Thanks man.awesome

B

@SHbickel, the Snuffhouse boxes are/were slightly deeper, slightly shorter and about a 1/2 inch less wide than the one you pointed out. Design is the same, just different dimensions.

S

I’ve lost my snuffhouse box somewhere and I really miss it.

D

Oops.  Found it.

I traded @Noisebox for 4 of these.  Looking forward to trying them out - currently have Molens Chococreme in one and WoS CoC in the other.  My only “complaint” so far (if I had to find one) is that you need a spoon or something to load the box.  A paper funnel would work too.

The flick/single dose under the lid is really slick.  I’ll just need to get used to it, as with fresh (moist) snuff, it’s easy to snap it too hard and packing the snuff up in the head space.  A gentle flip is all it takes.

N

@Direwolf It was great to meet another snuffer so close to home. Thanks for the trade i’ve got so many new snuffs to explore. More importantly, your testing feedback is incredibly valuable to me.

  • Filling these is a bit finicky, a spoon indeed is how i’ve been doing it. The funnel you had is probably a popular size on snuff sites. The box would have to be a bit wider but i may be able to fit that funnel into the loading area. Any chance you have calipers to measure that?

  • Moist snuffs can indeed sort of pack up underneath the lid (doesn’t seem to mess with the lids function at all) i find that a flick downward or a quick tap on the lid will break it loose. I would imagine that a slightly wider body would also help here, perhaps along with some chamfer on the inside corners. These changes will just have to be printed and tested to see what works.

Thanks again!

D

No complaints on filling - the way it’s made requires it, and I like it’s use better than the standard Mr. Snuff tab box.  You can’t load or pinch out of yours the same, but the dose means I can flick it, slide the lid, tap the contents into a boxcar under the table, and insufflate in public (or a meeting!) without a big to-do.

S

I just got done seeing Deadpool at the theater.  The dose chamber works well, which was especially handy in the dark since you know how much you’re going to get.  I personally like taking the snuff straight off the box… it’s kind of somewhere between a bullet and a spoon.  I’m glad I got some of these.

S

Re: filling - I portion out my snuff on on clean paper or foil. Then I just fold and feed the box!

Overall, my prototypes have been fantastic. I think as-is this is a very usable design and has no major failings. They’re very comfortable in the pocket, almost unnoticeable. I second (third? forth?) everyone’s comments regarding stealthiness as well.

Great work @Noisebox ! These will definitely join my daily rotation. I’ll update the thread with my thoughts after some quality time with the boxes. I’m trying a variety of grinds and scent strength levels.

That said, here are some hopefully constructive thoughts:

The lid can be a tad difficult for my clumsy fingers. In particular, my thumb drags on the sides of the box when sliding the lid. I was thinking you could investigate extending the ridge on the lid just a tiny bit above the rest. That way my clumsy thumb will have purchase on the lid without touching the sides. (But this may introduce accidental-opening-in-pocket issues.)

I’ve had one instance of accidental opening, but it occurred when extricating from my pocket. We’ll chalk it up to user error.

The portion side is a bit small for my preference, but I love the size of the box. A variety of bowl sizes, in the same size box might be fun for the Goldilocks in us all.

I also thought it might be fun to make them stackable. A FlickBOX pancake stack would make a nice desk ornament. haha

S

After using this most of the day, I agree with the lid @SHbickel.  It would be nice if it was a little easier to slide, but if it was any easier it might be too easy and open in the pocket.  All in all I think these are good as is, but if improvements can be made without changing it too much, great.  I’ll just copy and paste my opinion I wrote Noisebox in an email.

I loaded the one with 6 Photo Kailash, because I thought that would be one of the trickier snuffs for the little dispensing chamber.  It works great!  I just flicked my wrist once the first time like I was packing a dip, and it filled the chamber.  The second time it didn’t take the first flick, so I flicked my wrist multiple times, and that was too much because it packed the chamber too tightly.  So with 6 Photo Kailash, a very clumpy snuff, it still works great - it just might need a second flick of the wrist.
I snuffed straight from the box which worked well - one of my favorite things about the box since I often snuff straight from a spoon.  Using a black snuff with the yellow box, I was able to see through the lid and could tell if the chamber had snuff in it or not.  At first I thought the chamber could stand to be bigger, but then I realized that’s not the case with all snuffs - so I like the chamber size.  The size of the box itself is a big seller for me.  Half-full is more than enough for me, and I could fit a few very comfortably in my pocket.
The only downside I see is that it’s a little more difficult to fill that your average snuff box.  But, for anyone who owns a flask like I do, they probably have a funnel or can make one from paper.  I think it’s a small price to pay for the size and design.

B

Any chance getting one in clear or translucent so you can see when your getting low?

D

The FlickBox.

I like it.

N

Holy crap tons of feedback I <3 you guys! Ok give me a little while to read through these, glance over my model and i’ll respond to each point you guys brought up.

N

@SHbickel - I’m glad to hear people are finding these to be more than just a novelty, i’ve been carrying mine every day since the first one came off the build plate almost  2 months ago

N

Re: Filling

Paper funnels/folds is a great idea. I wish i could 3d print an adequate funnel but i fear the textured nature of the parts would interfere with loading or cross over flavors. If i should find myself switching to ABS in the future this is something i’ll explore with acetone vapor smoothing which would create a smooth surface. If someone could measure their funnel and let me know the diameter of the nozzle i could use the information for future considerations.

N

Re: Lid

As mentioned the lid being friction fit is a delicate balance. Too tight and you fight to open it, too loose and it slides open in the pocket. This is the piece that has gone through the most iterations. The end of the lid that covers the dose chamber had to be slimmed down where it was expose to prevent accidental openings. The ridge was added to allow a bit of leverage sliding it open but had to be protected from getting caught like the end was. My small thumbs worked ok for this model but i can see larger hands finding it more difficult. For the version1 prototype everyone received i erred on the side of a tighter lid to start. Again i didn’t want people with pockets full of snuff. Over time and use the plastic will work in a bit and they will become easier to slide. From a design and printing perspective; There are also slight variations on the very first layer of plastic the printer lays down (especially between different color batches) it varries with how far the nozzle is from the glass at Z=0 (typically around 0.05mm+/-0.01mm to give you an idea of the precision required). If the Z=0 is too close the lid when being printed can get squished out slightly wider on the first layer creating a much tighter fit. Taking this into consideration for future designs perhaps small detents in the interface between the lid and box could be used. The lid could click into place when closed completely securing it from accidental openings. This would allow me to relieve some of the friction currently being used. If done correctly it could be both secure and easier to open. To be honest this idea was infact printed in several iterations and ultimately abandoned for favor of simplicity, partially because my first order was slated to arrive any day and i wanted a functioning box :). I will revisit this idea

N

Re: Dose chamber

It seems that the dose size is on the small side for most. The size dose dispensed does vary between snuff types so i wanted to avoid it being too large and end up with waste, or a higher N tolerance lol. I am thinking that the volume of the dose chamber will slightly increase in the next iteration. There was no thought put into the actual shape of the chamber, it’s just a cylindrical hole right now. I want to explore a few shapes, like sloping the walls outward slightly, perhaps a concave bottom, or maybe a V groove. I’ll take the current chamber volume into consideration for those tests.

Re; Stackable

This is a fun idea! I’ll brainstorm on a way to incorporate the idea if i don’t have to compromise elsewhere. I have toyed with the idea of a desk organizer to hold multiples, maybe something modular, or stackable, or rotatable. It shouldn’t take me long to mock up a few ideas.

Re: Snuffing from the  dose chamber

I’ve been brainstorming ways to generate a bit more airflow through the dose chamber, or perhaps slope the walls to allow the snuff to lift out more gently. As mentioned above i will be playing with the dose chamber a bit.

Thank you for all the valuable feedback! Keep it coming.

N

@basement_shaman

Re: Translucent

There does exist a variety of translucent filaments in various colors here’s one such example. the finish can vary from cloudy to clear-ish depending on plastic type, temperature, and internal structure. I’ve never printed with it so i can’t speak to just how see-through it is. This is something i do want to play with.

B

Finally found this thread again! These are sounding like sweet little deals. Can’t wait for the final version. I would be interested in a couple for sure. Hopefully the site let’s me come back here and keep up on the updates.

B

I’m sold. How do I get my hands on one or two of these?

B

@Noisebox that reminds me I have to respool my fishing reel B-)

1

First impressions… Perfect size. Portion is just about right for me as well. I did however (no fault of the product) blow my left eye ball out of its socket with a poorly timed/angled sniff of Tom Buck directly from the container. WHEW!! Won’t try that again. More to follow with more experience of course.

N

@1985_CarbStang

This size is a big hit. :)

Snuffing from the chamber is an advanced move for sure. I giggled to myself because i’ve met the same fate of a Tom Buck chamber bump that went wrong. I find a gentle flick that loads a fluffy chamber is easier to take from the box. Again everyone attempt at your own risk.

S

Haha, our friend Tom blasted my brains out from a poorly executed chamber hit too.

N

@Bronco253 @bigmick

Hey guys stay tuned to the thread as the model undergoes a few tweaks. The second run will start once i’m confident the model represents the feedback i receive.

Don’t hesitate to toss in suggestions, or ask questions

S

I’ve given solid usage to a variety of snuffs and I am very much in love with the FlickBOX.  Here are some more thoughts and observations:

-Scent retention seems to be on par with my silver boxes. A good washing will take care of most, maybe some baking soda for the stubborn ones.  I’ve noticed staining on the inside of my green box.
-The coarsest grind I have is a brown. Tapping out the bowl is still very doable with this level of grind.
-The friction on the slide top is perfect for my tastes. I have gotten used to the shape but still wonder if there is a way to add a little more purchase for my thumb.  If a raised ridge or nub increases risk of opening in the pocket… this is hard to put to words… but perhaps a negative sawtooth relief on the lid is possible? Instead of raised height to get caught on the pocket, the purchase would be provided by indented strips along a portion of the lid.
-I imagine a remixed version with a sliding side instead of (in addition to?) the sliding top.  The PinchBOX.

And it bears repeating, @Noisebox , you’ve done a bang up job.  The FlickBOX masterfully fills the role of a daily carry tapbox.  I really like it.

1

Few days in and I have a couple more thoughts. 1) Freshness - I tested having snuff in one since the day I got it. WoS Crumbs of Comfort. Opened a fresh tin, filled the box half way, then promptly resealed the tin to preserve the existing humidity. Left it three days of normal use and then compared a sample from box and tin. Almost no difference. I think the lack of surface area exposed to direct air in the flick box help to preserve freshness. At least in my experience. 2)Slide - I personally don’t have a problem with its use. I just think a slight redesign where it can only go on one way would be nice. But that’s very minor. Overall I am very happy. A production model In a less more temperature sensitive material would be great (from what I understand anyway, you’re the expert ) but I am very satisfied.

N

It’s been a busy weekend! I did make some time to tweak with the flickbox model but have not completed enough alterations to warrant a print and testing.

@SHbickel Thanks for putting it through daily use testing.

Re: Lid - I have mocked up a lid with an area of depressed ridges like you describe. This could prove to be easier to grip and still safe from accidental openings and might be the solution we’re looking for. I’ll let you know how it works when this version gets put on the build plate.

Re: PinchBOX - This is a great idea. It would probably be best with a detented lid design, or some other more secure design than a simple friction lid. I will put this idea on the drawing board. Maybe something about the size of the snuffhouse.org boxes

@1985_CarbStang

Re: Freshness - Thanks for doing SCIENCE! Thats fascinating that the freshness keeps so well. You’re probably correct that the smaller exposed surface area may help to preserve some freshness.

Re: Lid - While designing there was an iteration where the lid would only slide on in one direction. The box had a raised ridge around the dose chamber that was added while trying to solve accidental openings. Ultimately the ridge interfered with the closing of the lid as some snuff would become compacted between the lid and the box when sliding it closed. I’ll look into other ways to prevent the lid from being inserted the wrong way

It’s a pleasure to see you all enjoying the FlickBOX so much. Keep the testing and feedback coming!

R

Hope to get mine today.

D

I’ve been carrying 3 - Molens Chococreme in one, Wos Crumbs in another, and Tom Buck in a 3rd.

I melted part of my right eyeball direct snuffing from the TB box, but the Chococreme is much easier as it’s coarser.  That said - one TB flick covers two nostrils, where the coarser snuff is a single side dose.

I have a version with one side opening, and have had no problems.

Freshness/moisture seems to be holding up well after a week of use.  I think having only the slide and not a side pinch door helps this.

I have a Mr. Snuff tapbox, so not a bunch of experience, but I like the FlickBOX ™ better.  The side door helps filling, but the tidy slide, and dose chamber blow that door out of the water, IMO.

N

Do we all carry a FlickBOX with Tom Buck in it?  :))

Everyone received the same version of the lid mechanism (albeit with some friction variances). The way i understood the “one way” was to mean; After taking the lid off the box it can be placed back on the box facing the wrong direction, thus no doses for eager noses.

N

Learned how to render the project in Fusion 360 to give you guys a preview of changes. Here’s a rough draft of the lid with a sawtooth area added for extra grip.

There is a second version with the friction reduced and the detents added but you can really see the results in a render.

S

Yes, please.

R

Just got mine out of the mail today. So far I am really enjoying them. Snuff right out of box. Perfect dosage for me. I think I am going to overdose on Toque USA Whiskey and honey if I don’t quit playing around with it. Thanks again @noisebox.

N

@RS422 Glad to hear they arrived safely! Toss me some feedback when you use them for a while I nearly overdosed on Lundy Foot the same way  :))

R

Have had the 2 tap boxes for over a week now. Have had them on me every day when out and about. Have only had one slight problem so far. Left one on the car seat in 80 degree plus heat. The lid became real loose. After bringing it back in the house it tightened up. Sure hope these will become available on a regular basis. I think the only thing I would change is the width in order to fill easier.

D

Had 3 with me in non-tobacco friendly territory on a long weekend with my parents.

They were great on the plane, and at their house, and had plenty of capacity for a 3 day weekend.  And all 3 easily fit into a vest pocket.

D

Damn, can’t wait to get my hands on a few of these. They sound fantastic. Well done sir!!!

J

I’m enjoying using mine. I don’t think they would replace my normal boxes, as I tend to take large pinches, but they are certainly less messy, and seem to work well with scotches and standard WoS grind. The greatest advantage is that you can use them one handed if you sniff directly from the box - and for that the dose is just about right. Well done, @Noisebox !

H

I Can’t wait till I receive my boxes [-O< So far all the reviews are awesome. I hope your side business is doing good for you.I wish u the best of luck. =D>

N

Are they available for purchase, or will they be soon?

I am definitely interested. Great design & ingenuity. Seems like it would be perfect for quick & discrete hits while working!

S

@normfeth - that’s funny you mention that.  I have some of the prototypes, and was just touching bases with him yesterday talking about how nice they are for discreet snuffing at work.  You might want to try sending him a PM.

H

I’ve been keeping two in my pocket at all times since getting them last month. Super discreet. The dosing chambers on mine (first batch) were a bit small for my needs, but I just flipped the tabs around to face the other way so I can tap out of the loading chamber and away I go! I understand he’s been experimenting with making the dosing chambers a little bit bigger on the next ones. BTW, @noisebox I haven’t heard from you since responding to your email two weeks ago. Are you still alive out there?

H

20160311_142151

B

How much are they $ ?

D

@Hiisuzen  Showoff!

N

I’m alive!!! My internet has been out for over a week now while Comcast twiddled their thumbs about fixing it. Also this site does not play well with my android mobile devices so i was unable to post updates.

The FlickBOX is still very much under development. While offline i couldn’t access my most recent models. Instead i used the time to design a few new projects. A few snuff related, a few not. Now that i have acess to my models again i’ll be applying the changes to the second prototype and hopefully running a print of them this weekend.

Changes being tested:

15% larger dose chamber

Chamber bottom is now a rounded bowl

Sawtooth thumb pad on lid

Reduced plastic bulk in some areas.

Several lid iterations for comparison

 - With detents

 - With detents, friction reduced

 - With detents, friction eliminated

 - Secret lid closure mechanism

I also want to test a slightly wider bodied version that would make filling easier

Thank You to everyone for the amazing support. Your donations for the first prototype batch are being reinvested into my 3D printing. Over the next couple months i’ll be building a new, more capable printer. The machine will be based on the CoreXY kinematics, specifically i will be modifying the C-Bot by Carl Feniak. The first batch of parts was ordered thanks in part to all of you!

After my morning coffee i’ll get to posting replies made in my absence.

N

@Hitsuzen Hey buddy, i actually did respond to the last email i received from you. Check again for me.

H

@Noisebox Crap on a biscuit. You’re right. I was the non-responder! Sorry about that. I’ll get back to you later tonight.

M

I need one or more lol let me know if your selling as well

N

The CoreXY printer build is coming along nicely. A few small hiccups along the way but nothing show stopping thus far. I’m now just waiting on a few last mechanical components and all of the electronics to arrive. Much of my time these last two weeks has been spent on assembly and research. This coming week my schedule is packed so i won’t be making much progress. I will be able to spend some more time with the FlickBOX model.

Between the new printer and changes from feedback made to the model I promise that the second run FlickBOX prototypes will be worth the wait!!

PS Stay tuned, i hope to post some pictures of the new printer build (CoreBOX) this weekend.

G

Is it possible to try to print these with the wood grain filiment? I imagine that would look pretty cool.

T

This is a fantastic idea. Looking forward to seeing what develops.

P

@Noisebox, I’d like to get one of your tap boxes. Especially if you do the wood grain filament. I’d take one either way.

P

@Noisebox just curious any more development happening for these?

N

The FlickBOX is still under development, albeit slowly.

In my absence on the forum the CoreBOX project has been chugging away consuming most of my time.
When posting this the machine is at near 90% completion. The final 10% is calibration, tuning, materials testing, slight modifications etc. While in recovery from surgery this week i’ve been spending quite a bit of time on various 3D print related projects, various *BOX ideas among other things.

Soon I will put up a few photos and maybe a video of the CoreBOX printer in action.

P

Cool, thanks for the update. I’m definitely interested in picking at least one up when they become available.

S

@Noisebox Nice!  I hope you’re enjoying the work, but take it easy and feel better.  Just wanted to say I’m still using (and loving!) my FlickBOXs.  You can’t catch me without one.  Excellent job, man.

N

@Grunt The wood filament has been on my wishlist for a while. Originally i wanted to print the body of my Ukulele design with it. From what i hear it is slightly different, from the PLA it’s made from, in that it’s both weaker and has a lower glass temp which were both deal breakers for that project. I’ll bump the wood filament back to the front of my wishlist when the second FlickBOX run is imminent.

@Tobe @Psicko Be sure to turn on e-mail notifications for your snuffhouse PMs. When the time comes i’ll start gauging interest by sending out PMs to interested parties from this thread.

@SHbickel Thanks for the well wishes! The time away from work kills me. I’m ready and willing to fulfill my duties but Doctors orders are time off and sunshine. Oregon is blessing us with plenty of that right now. Great to hear you’re getting daily use from them! I’m both proud and humbled my little creation has found a home in so many pockets already.

Update time ladies and gentlemen!

The CoreBOX printer is offline for fixes and upgrades. I was able to identify and reprint a failing component just in time. Replacing it requires quite a bit of disassembly. While the machine is apart there are several other components to improve upon and some final wire management that needs to take place. When the printer comes back online i plan to print and test a few changes to the FlickBOX 0.2 prototype.

It’s been several months now since the first prototype run of the FlickBOX. I’m hoping that each of you that received prototype units have found good use of them. I am looking for some long-term use feedback from each of you. All feedback is welcome. What do you love about the design, what would you change? What sweet feature have you thought to include? Has the device failed you in any way? Did the FlickBOX spark a conversation or get you a date?

For anyone that did not receive a first run prototype i am still interested in your input. If you own any tap boxes how would you improve upon them? What’s the ideal size of a tapbox, a zippo, as big as a Bernard tapbox? How large are your pinches?  How much of one type of snuff can you use in a week?

What colors would you like to see the FlickBOX in? From the prototype run it seems that black, green and blue were the top picks. Is the Wood filament a popular option?

Edit: I just realized i never uploaded the promised video or pictures of the new printer. Please forgive the quality and content of this video it was never meant to be shared but everyone should see what they helped create Behold, Corebox in action

S

Glad to hear you’re still working on them @Noisebox.  I still use mine, and had one with some Berwick Brown in it today.  I think it’s about the perfect size box, and it’s pretty slick to be able to take snuff straight from the chamber.  I load mine with a butter knife, and have gotten pretty good with that.

I really think it’s fine as is.  MAYBE a bigger chamber (I like the current size for fine/dry snuffs.  I can just flick out a couple more pinches if I want more snuff in my nose), and MAYBE a lid that slides easier (if it doesn’t slide off in the pocket).  Those are very nit-picky things… I’d just as soon stick with the prototypes I have.

Wood filament sounds cool.  I like having a variety of different colors to dedicate certain boxes to certain snuffs. You did something with the boxes I ordered to assist with color-coordinating; you gave me two red boxes, but one had a black lid.  Having the option of a black lid might be good for some people that want to buy a bunch to separate their Indians, toasts, naturals, SPs, fruits, menthols, etc.  Oooh, transparent lids so that you can see if the chamber is filled?  $

P

@Noisebox all those colors you mentioned sound good. The wood filament one sounds classy. I also like the idea of a transparent lid to see if the chamber is filled. I’m looking forward to getting a few of these.

S

@Noisebox Still loving my flickBOXs.  Forgive the brevity of my comments:

I don’t know if you have a record of which box was sent to me, but the lid on the black one is officially too loose.  The other lids are a-ok.

I’ve found that I shy away from the “moister” snuffs.  They can be harder to clean out.  I also recommend using cool/cold water.  If feels like warm/hot water affects the structural quality of the box.

I continue to fill using a piece of paper, folded and dumped, like a made-to-order funnel.  Perhaps you can print one?  I’m thinking something similar to what burger flippers use to fill fry pouches at fast food restaurants.  Let me know if you want a poorly drawn sketch of my imaginings.  haha

In the past couple of weeks I’ve started pinching as my regular method of intake.  I hope you’re still noodling an idea for a pinchBOX!

Edit: The Corebox looks legit!  There is some wicked discordant harmony going on there too. Very cool.

B

I don’t need one but would love to have one.

T

So what gives on these boxes? I would also love to have one.

N

OMG Is this a FlickBOX update?!

First, I just want to take a moment to give each and every one of you a sincere Thank You! This entire community is amazing. The support and feedback from the first run of FlickBOX prototype was overwhelming!

While this thread sits dormant, CoreBOX does not. Over the course of the last few months the printer has survived a move, a power surge and subsequent 2 day brown out, several part upgrades and most recently a software upgrade and a recalibration in its new home. Additionally i’ve been experimenting with a new plastic called PETG (the plastic new water bottles and baby bottles are made from to be BPA free). This material has great temperature resilience and wear resistance as well as having a nicer fit and finish. With all of these changes I feel confident that CoreBOX is now ready to run a second batch of FlickBOX prototypes.

In the following few days i’ll update this thread with more details including; Pricing, Availability, Colors, and the changes between v1 and v2. If anyone has further questions feel free to post them here or contact me directly through email noisebox(at)gmail(dot)com

N

Here’s a sneak peak of one new option

(Did you notice the flick chamber in the upper right of the box is loaded?)

T

These look to be perfect, I am trying a bullet at the moment. I do not like it, I open the bottom and pour it into a boxcar and use it from there. Thank you for the update.

H

Awesome!! Put me down for 2 of dem. Also what reg.colors&translucent colors do you have available? Lmk how to pay and give me some shipping details. Peace and mahalos, Hawaiian_Ryan P.S.Are you making the pinchbox still?

P

Sweet. I’m interested. Keep me posted.

S

Big fan of the transparency!

M

I like yer “FlickBOX”.

When you have them in production again I would like a couple.

S

I have nothing to add to this thread except that I highly recommend/love and constantly use my FlickBOXs.  I would happily acquire more.

B

Keep up the good work!

S

Finally some snuff accessories!

T

Hope to see them for sale soon? Also a Price?   G’Day

A

^^^ Yeah how much are they?
