It was an eventful year for snuffhouse, >.org went dark and cstoke4 picked up the torch and saved snuffhouse members from going crazy with his site snuffhouse boards.net .I really appreciated that @cstokes4 thank you for your service to our community.
And then we arrived back here at snuffhouse.com with the archives saved for the most part. We adapted to the lack of functions our old home had and they had dealt with some of the bugs thankfully Mark Stinson came on board and tweaked what he could to mold the site to what is is today. Thanks @markstinson for all your hard work. It been a trying year for me but i won’t go into that.
De Kralingse had released Son de Tonca
Dholakia released A Toasted Madras and Medicated #10
Our own Chef Daniel keeps his new line flowing so fast I lost track.
Gadsden Mill got into the game
Johnny SWS continues to wow us.
F&T has tiny tins
So what did you discover in 2015? Anything special?
Other than Toques Rustica I’ve not discovered anything special. I did come to the realisation though that I’m a plain snuff man, natural tobaccos and toasts are where it’s at for me. I’ve tried lots of menthols and fruity snuffs, but when I run out it’s always the toasts I pine for. Unfortunately being in Ireland Old Mill is out of my range, though I’d dearly love to try some. Love to try some American scotches too, but alas the tin or two I ordered from Mr.Snuff never arrived, probably customs helping themselves to my hard earned, what’s new…
In 2015 I learned that life without cigarettes is not only possible but enjoyable thanks to ‘discovering’ snuff. Absolutely incredible!!! Happy New Year everyone.
2015… got through my first year of nursing school with good grades, hopefully had my last drink (about 6 months sober now), got a pug puppy, and last but not least… made my first snuff order and joined Snuffhouse!
Thanks to you all that made/make Snuffhouse a place that I can talk about snuff with other people that are into it. I’ve made my first “online friends” here. Also, I appreciate those that know how to make good snuff in so many varieties. It’s nice to use tobacco this way… I’m not ashamed of it! Happy New Year people of Snuffhouse!
2015 was the year I finally realized I like fine snuffs, not coarse ones, and in other ways narrowed down my snuff preferences. There’s an old pipe adage that “all roads lead to Virginia” and I’m wondering if it applies to snuff as well.
2015 is the year I discovered snuff. I was vaping and found that the vaping experience was simply not very satisfying by itself. Snuff provides the tobacco alkaloids I was missing.
The guys at work who have taken to vaping ( with huge, industrial looking devices which require a car battery and which produce cumulonimbus sized clouds of vapour ) are at it constantly yet are still bumming cigs off folk. So much for nicotine - there aint no substitute for bacca I chuckle to myself whilst taking a coupla pinches. Anyway, I’m gonna tame the White Elephant in 2016’s first snuff order…(well I’ll give it my best shot).
2015 was the first official full year for Old Mill. And a hell of a year it was, thanks entirely to my friends here on Snuffhouse. It did have a few speed bumps along the way, but nothing overwhelming or insurmountable. The biggest challenge has been getting the ideas out of my head, into the mill and into everyone’s noses; a situation not likely to go away anytime soon.
It’s part and parcel of the creative process, and I am excited to keep this going in 2016 and beyond.
One of my goals is to make the menu more user friendly and more compact, and to get it organized into categories to make the search easier. I also want to create a “graveyard” page where I can list the dearly departed snuffs with suitable eulogies.
Thank you for your support during 2015 and I’m looking forward to making 2016 a banner year.
I’ll remember 2015 as the year I was introduced to this fine hobby of snuff. Becoming involved with other people interested in the same hobby creates opportunities and friendships that otherwise wouldn’t take place. Becoming a member of Snuffhouse has done just that. Thanks to all who have helped me live and learn about this fine hobby.
2015 was my first full year of snuffing and first year to discover pretty much everything snuff outside of Poschl :-).
Also I’m grateful for the camaraderie here and the awesome discussions and opinions that enhance such a fun activity!
Adding to my previous comment, I do feel inclined to acknowledge the masterful alchemy of our own Daniel Richard (aka Chef Daniel)… he has grabbed the torch of American snuff making which has been surrendered by all past creators. Outside of mass-produced scotches, the dry snuff market is a shadow of both its former self and of it’s potential. Our nation has amnesia, truly forgetting that Ben Franklin et al brought nasal snuff to our shores, and we squandered the commercial possibilities. It’s all just dip now. The American legacy. We should be deeply ashamed. Damn, folks, let’s bring nasal snuff back! Grow some, cure some, it doesn’t take much. Just get the ball rolling and we could at least regain some of our former shine.
There are no heavy-duty mills in the US, nothing on par with the great old GH, SG, WoS or other vintage stone mechanisms to craft the fine snuffs we so adore. We have just our electric kitchen gadgetry, but even though the ancient machines keep churning, it seems some absolutely new possibilities find a way to reach snuffers, enchanting noses and pushing the envelope into new paradigms.
