1970's Original J & H Wilson Top Mill No.1 Snuff

Hello, i have managed to get my hands on a few J & H Wilson Top Mill No.1 25g snuff tin cans which were manufactured in the early 1970’s. The cans are in brand new condition with its original content still packed inside. They were stored away safely in the early 1970’s under my house in a cool and dry environment away from direct sun light. i was wondering if anybody has any information on if this product is still good to consume and if it has any value as a collectors item? Your comments will be very much appreciated. Thank you

Probably still good to consume, but don’t count on selling them for much, you can get a brand new tin like that for £3ish. Look at my earlier thread called PMSLMAO. A bloke was selling an empty tin of J&H Wilson for nearly £19. If you’re the same bloke you must be f***ing mental, wanting that much for a bit of tin and plastic no matter how old it is. It ain’t going to make you a millionaire, me old mucker. Welcome to the forum. Stefan

I think Top Mill No.1 is only sold in small tins nowadays, not the big round tins like in that picture. Probably doesn’t make them collectors items, but there is a demand for that snuff in those vacuum sealed tins, as can be seen in the ‘J&H Wilsons Bulk?’ thread where someone posted the email exchange between them and the company about it. The Medicated no.99 and SP No.1, however, are available in big and small tins - I have big tins of both.

They will be just fine if the seals have not been broken. I would love to have one if you are selling.

Jayems in Victoria St London still have Top Mill in 25g tins. I bought a couple a few weeks ago and they were perfectly fresh.

I think Walrus1985 scared him off, lol. edm

Lol @edm probably, didn’t mean too though just telling him how it is. Stefan

@Walrus1985 i ain’t the same bloke but thanks for the information  it’s very unfortunate snuff is illegal to sell in Australia and has been since the early 80’s which explains why almost everybody I’ve asked has no idea what snuff is. @Sloth the tins in the picture are actually small sized tins, they just look big @Xander sorry Xander I will not be selling any cans… once I’m out I’m out for good! The amount of tax I will be charged if purchased online is ridiculous. apologies for late reply, Walrus made me shit myself

@carloz, sorry mate didn’t mean to. Just wondered if you were the same bloke. You will definately sell them just don’t expect hundred’s of £££. They should be usable, if they have never been opened. The bloke who was selling an empty, little tin of J&H Wilson’s was absolutely crazy, more fool the idiot that bought it, that’s if it sold. Stefan

@carloz I thought you were selling them as collectibles, not sure why tax would enter into that.

@Walrus1985 cheers mate  @Xander the reason why i mentioned tax is because pretty much once i’ve run out of snuff and decide i want more, my only easy option is to purchase it internationally from an online store as it is illegal to sell snuff in Australia. So if i was to purchase snuff online and import it into Australia for personal use the Australian Customs would charge me a stupid amount of tax on top of the price it was purchased and posted for. Expect to pay around $15AUD here for a pack of 20 cigarettes at your local supermarket and aroud $17AUD at your local service station. If snuff was legal to sell and was sold in stores in Australia it would cost way too much anyway. sucks to be a smoking snuffer down under i guess? haha

@Xander LOL apologies for mistakingly crapping on about my snuff tax situation for nothing as i stupidly misinterpreted your last reply as a question, rather than simply what it is… if i had read it twice. silly me

that would explain why there is a black market for tobacco in Aus.

I have no problem accepting samples  I don’t have the information for you, but enjoy!
