These days, I mostly play online with the App Live Hold’em Pro. I still get out to a real tourney now and then but not as often.
Any other poker players here? Where do you play online?

I used to play when I was active duty. Played at a casino or a river boat casino depending on where I was. I used to goof off on zynga for awhile. I havent played in a long time other than occasionally at family gatherings. I never had the patience for long tourney play.
I play occasionally at home with the wife and some reprobates but the wifey is real good so people don’t want to lose their $20 anymore- so they just come over to drink now
I gave up Hold 'Em a few years ago and now our games stick to the traditional five card stud, seven card stud and five card draw. I guess you could call it boring, but there’s a lot to be said about tradition, and mentally calculating odds is much easier with those games. The “tells” are much easier to read, at least for me.
@Psicko … patience is the key for me. An older guy that I used to see at the casino once told me, “There is no such thing as a single game of poker but rather a lifetime of hands.” That really stuck with me!
@jmahes … that’s what happened with my buddy’s home tournaments. He changed it to super low stakes to get them to come back! LOL
@chefdaniel … I wouldn’t call any version of poker boring. Tells, for me, are difficult most of the time. I rely primarily on assessing what type of players they are. If they are very aggressive players, I play the Solid Rock. If everyone else is playing the Rock, I go super aggressive. Most of the time, I like to get the chips before even seeing the flop. That’s why I like No Limit … few players are willing to throw in the stack pre-flop.
Now I’m hankering for a game … going to go check the casino schedule! :ar!
@Cobguy True poker really isn’t gambling, it’s a skill and an honest pursuit. which is why I gave up Hold 'Em.
Not really boring, but it does take time to read the players and get to know their habits, which is why I prefer the “short” games. Our Thursday game is populated by all sorts of farmers, local politicians and assorted reprobates, miscreants and yahoos. I figure if I survive without getting gutted, it’s been a good night.

Completely agree! It’s easy to take chips from the “Gamblers”. : )
I paid dearly for my early lessons in applied probability. It was a five card stud game that had been going on for about thirty years in the back room of a bar. The lessons were painful until I figured out that the old timers sat there all day playing cinches, taking my chips while I chased all manner of fantasies. Lessons learned.
I bought my first car when I got out of the service, cash from playing poker.
