OT - Where to order Absinthe?

Hey there. I’ll make this quick :stuck_out_tongue: , does anyone know a good and reliable website to order some absinthe from? I know there are a few of you out there who enjoy the green fairy :stuck_out_tongue: , so just let me know! Thanks again

www.alandia.de it’s where I get mine. DOn’t expect it to be cheap though. Your looking it at damn near $100 anywhere you go for the real deal

http://www.originalabsinthe.com Sorry its not a link, i’am not that computer savvy. I have not ordered from them yet, its been in my favorites for when my supply runs out, or, my supply is depleated. They have anything from reasonable priced to astronomically priced.

Thanks a lot for the help! I’ve bookmarked both  . I’m thinking a friend and I might order a bottle of Mansinthe… I’m pretty stoked about that let me tell you

I highly recommend http://www.originalabsinthe.com their absinthe is top notch and packed so well you couldn’t break the bottles if you tried. They also have fast shipping, everytime I’ve ordered from them I have received my order a week before their estimated arrival date. I recommend getting their gift set #8, you get a bottle of their Original, Bitter Spirit (these are excellent absinthes) and an absinthe spoon for less than it cost to buy the bottles seperately

Thanks again! We’ll probably add that #8 gift set to the order then :stuck_out_tongue: . I wanted to get a spoon too, so that works for me.

@mikemoose Mansinthe is terrific stuff. Moulin Vert 68 and Absinthe Abisinthe Amer are also both incredible historical recipe Absinthes that too me taste really close to the pre-ban Pernod I once tried, and they will knock your eyeballs out. I’ve always used Alandia because of the distillers they contract with, I’ve never tried anything from originalabsinthe, because I was not familiar with their brands or distillers but these guys say they are good so I might check them out myself.

I just checked all these sites and sadly MikeMoose none of them (except originalabsinthe) will ship to Canada, also I can’t find any site that carries mansinthe and ships to Canada, looks like we’re shit out of luck on the mansinthe

@MikeMoose: You might also want to have a look at www.absinthe.de (have a look at authentic absinthe). Forget about originalabsinthe.com and lafeeabsinthe.com. Alandia is also fine.

Absinthe.de WILL NOT ship to Canada

I live close to a wine merchants which stocks several brands of absinthe and his opinion (the expert) and mine (the customer) is that La Fee kicks the arse off everything. It follows a traditional French recipe and is proper French absinthe, the stuff from absinthe.de appears to be German which sounds quite odd to me.

Absinthe.de as well as Alandia.de are German, yes. I can’t recommend La Fee as it is a high quality product. High price though. I have been in the Absinthe business from 2001 until 2010 and have tried about 200 types. I can absolutely recommend this one: http://www.alandia.de/absinthe/product\_info.php/language/en/info/p453\_Absinthe-Eichelberger-68-Limit-e.html. Very well done with an ok price. One of the best you will find. This Absinthe was created out of a competition I held while running THE German Absinthe forum. All the Jade Absinthe are top notch too.

@Alex since you definitely seems to know your stuff I was looking at the Eichelberger Verte 78. How would you rate that? I don’t know if you have ever tried the Alandia Moulin Vert (my current fave) but if yo have how would it stack up in terms of overall flavor and a nice louche? ALso if I am not mistaken, ALandia themselves are in Germany but they sell Absinthes made in different places, France, Switzerland, ect.

If you are in the U.S.: http://www.drinkupny.com/category\_s/136.htm

@TheNoseKnows All Eichelberger’s are very nice. Definitely worth a try. The Moulin Vert is ok, but nothing special. It’s not quite balanced. Have a look here (even though it’s German, the scores might help as well): http://absinth-bibel.de/scores.php

@Alex, thanks for the advice! If somone with your experience in the absinthe world says the Eich. Verte 78 is good, I will give it a whirl on my next absinthe spending spree. I guess (althought I am no pro, just a huge fan) I can kinda see where you are coming from with the taste of the Moulin Vert being unbalanced, it does have a stronger flavor type that seems more overwhelming than others I have sampled. I am anxious to try the Eichelberger in a few weeks (wifey says no absinthe till income tax arrives :frowning: ) I still want to find something that tasted like that Pernod I tried when I lived in Florida, if I could find something that tasted and felt like that…I would be in heaven. Thanks for the link and advice Alex, you are truly a scholar and a gentleman

The universe is telling me to get some absinthe. Funny thing that’s what my income tax returns will probably go too to.

This is interesting. I never even thought of absinthe other than the snuff. I love licorice and anise, in fact, I have been known to drink Arak. Actually sat through “From Hell” the other night, I was fascinated with the character’s use of absinthe, although with a non-standard added ingredient. What about the ones that are available locally, like say, at Binny’s? Would they compare at all, or are they watered down versions?

Most of them are not really the “real thing” They may be in a sense of the word but the difference is like a Ford Mustang with a 4 cylinder compared to a Mustang Cobra Saleen with a Paxton Supercharged 351ci and a six bolt main.
