How does one go about mixing snuffs?

This may seem like a daft question, and possibly even the rantings of a madman, but is there a certain procedure to mixing snuffs?

I can offer a suggestion for the mechanical process. I use the large ziploc food storage bags (2 liters?) enter contents and shake (like the old shake and bake bags). I’ve also found this works well even with adding liquid flavorings. Measure out flavoring into the bag, seal and roll it around so the flavoring coats the inside of the bag. Enter dry contents and mix, then leave it sit in the bag until the flavor is absorbed. There’s very little clumping.

I usually mix small piles on the back of my hand with my pipe tool spoon. If I like it, I mix a few spoonfuls in a smash box or empties tin. No special mixing needed. Add desired contents, close lid, shake. When I mix on the back of my hand I just fold it over itself til the color is uniform.

My method: take a plainish snuff as a base, like SP, and just add between one and three other flavours. More, to my nose anyway, and it usually tends to get a bit muddy. The strength of the ‘flavouring snuff’ dictates the quantity, for example, if I use Royal George - which is extremely strongly scented, then the RG will be about 1 part in 10. Think of the flavours you enjoy as single snuffs and these are generally the ones that work out in combination. I also use blending as a way of ‘taming’ snuffs that are a touch too potent on their own. I love the nicotine in Dholakia White but it has a pretty ghastly taste, so I use it as a base for a strong nic blend that masks the fishy smell of the White: Powerblend ************ White, as base, 10 parts SP, 5 parts Rose, 3 parts Vanilla, 5 parts (any brands will do, substitute any floral or fruit to taste) Whilst I use plain snuffs all the time, I usually add a touch of a flavoured snuff. You can also use flavoured snuffs as ‘seasoning’, eg using a very small amount of something like RG or Rose just to give a background tang. It’s by no means an insane question, but as with all things snuff the only rules that count are your own.

When I want to mix snuffs, I use a glass jar for the purpose. Put whatever I want to mix in the jar and then roll the jar until I’m happy that it’s thoroughly “married”. I then leave the snuff in the same jar and roll from time to time even after I’ve taken some out to put in a snuff box. As for what to mix with what is a personal choice. I always mix a tiny bit until I’m happy with the result. Then make a nice batch, using the method as described.

I do it the Pike Mopers way, except I don’t store my mixed snuffs — I just mixed them as needed. Like a cocktail. A pipe tool is essential snuff equipment.

@snuffster I just mixed up your Powerblend. I’ve had a tapbox of D. White for a long time, but I could never take it without almost dying so its been sitting around for about a year. Your recipe intrigued me. I used the White, WoS Best SP, McC’s Violet (I’m out of rose), and Toque Vanilla. There was also a bit of leftover WoS #22 in my snuffbox that got added to the mix, maybe 2 parts worth. This mixture does a great job masking the D. White scent and gives a strong nic hit. It cleared out my sinuses quickly. Very nice, and recommended. Thank you for this recipe. I may have to order more White now.

Glad you liked it.

buck naked. daft you say?

@squarefiend - Thanks for giving us that mental image…! Just try not to spill any snuff on anything delicate and sensitive, as that might sting a bit. :open_mouth: For all the other responses, that’s exactly the kind of info I was looking for.
