Online Snuff Finds

@Volunge thanks. Those containers are causing an itch in the back of my brain, like I’ve seen them in passing before.

@Snuffick I think what you have may be more interesting historically than J & H wilsons and possibly older than the 70’s . I believe they came from Carroll’s of Dunkalk, Ireland’s oldest tobacco maufacturer. Here are some links that reinforce my belief. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carroll’s Carroll’s is mentioned on page 12 onward in this link and it confirms they did produce snuff. https://www.jstor.org/stable/24341016?read-now=1&seq=12#page\_scan\_tab\_contents Finally this picture shows a few products with the Carroll’s name, one linking them to Ireland and the company bearing that name. Great score again. Thanks for sharing.

@rostanf thanks for this great info. It makes me keener to try it and look more carefully at the age. I will keep the thread updated with some more photos when they arrive.

My pleasure. I thoroughly enjoy the hunt.

@rostanf: I almost bought those Smiths snuffs! How are they? And the Italian snuff in green paper, I have one of those, 1938! Not much scent, but a good one. I rescented it with cloves and vanilla and it’s very good. I look on eBay every week for vintage snuffs and have gotten a few great ones, and a few rusty tasting crappy ones. It’s hit or miss.

@mrmanos my bad! I should have included in my first comment that any thing I post here is up for grabs by anyone at the time of posting. These aren’t things I’ve purchased, just interesting stuff I find online. It’s amazing to me that snuff from 1938 is still good today.

@mrmanos that 1938 give you satisfaction? Curious how (and optimistic that, as long as not molded/spoiled) the effects hold up over that much time

Has anybody ever seen or even tried this Poschl Radford CC (Red Cherry)?

Radford CC (Red Cherry) Snuff

Used to be available on https://snuskingdom.ch/english/snus-kingdom/schnupftabak/radford-blue-english-menthol-6-dosen-1177.html . That’s an “oops” link, this ghost is long gone, and probably for good. And yes, I was looking for something special ;).

In 2016 Poschl presented this snuff at Dortmund-hosted InterTabac Fair. https://dutchpipesmoker.com/tag/samuel-gawith/page/2/ (no mention of the snuff in the blog, but the tin is captured in the picture of Poschl stand, you can find it in the gallery beneath the reportage).

Just noticed that the uploaded image from my previous post has mysteriously evaporated.

Nice idea. Just found some umbrella madras on a Chinese website. I ordered 3 cans. Hope I will get them  https://m.yoycart.com/Product/43237585570/Indian\_snuff\_wholesale\_(pure\_Indian\_umbr

@Hloridison, Chinese carry quite a few Indian snuffs. So far I have found N.C. Arya, Perumal Umbrella and ST Shunmugan STS Madras, Sri Vijayalakshmi Tiger Brand and Sri Sastha Brand 55555. There are many sellers on Taobao, but it’s a hassle to run a search there and to place an order without a reliable agent (I tossed away this idea). Check out this thread, links are dead, but you might still find it interesting: https://snuffhouse.com/discussion/12085/snuff-from-china-chinahao-com-scams-or-legit

Also, if you are interested in trying Durga Madras, try reaching out to Madala Ramakrishna on Facebook, I think he is a member of Nasal Snuff Takers group there, and have posted about the snuff his family makes. https://ibb.co/pxKLd5t

@newbiesnuffer, do you remember this man? Did he reply to your inquiry?

@volunge thank you so much for the informations. I really want to try more madras snuff. I got my Nc and the tps. I totally love them both. My janta Dragon madras is on it‘s way. It is really hart to get other madras. I will write madala a message. Thank you for the tip.

@volunge - He did not respond to my query. I am curious to try that one too. There are other Indian brands of Madras which I am looking for but not finding at all (TPS, NC Arya). Even Gokul could not find them in his town.

Did anyone buy all the Smiths snuff? I used to buy them in Scotland half a century ago. They were very good. Especially Red Cardinal.

Not sure, if these tins from a display box are full… Still, a pleasure to look at. https://tocshop.co.uk/vintage-samuel-gawith-kendal-sams-own-snuff-counter-display-box-12-tins/

I wish my journey into vintage unopened eBay scotch snuffs was more successful, but all of them were stale. A few were usable but a bit funky. I tossed them and kept the packaging. The ones that were good were sealed in plastic, meaning way more recent.

Has anyone ever had a decent old snuff they bought secondhand?
