Any Modern Snuffbox Makers?

I was showing my own spoons made from damascus. I can’t seem to get the images to post no matter what I try. I’d love to make boxes some day too!

@dan11 the day you manage to get a snuff box made you hit me up I would love to be your first customer

would something like this hold snuff?

I actually contacted the seller and he says that it does but what do you guys think?

In your shoes, I would look for a nice used snuffbox on Ebay from the 20th century, i.e. non-Victorian. There are plenty of great ones in pewter and brass, and even more very good ones in wood. If you have a bit more to spend you could go for a sterling silver box. I think you would get better value for money than trying to find a new box, silver or otherwise.

If you look around on Ebay, you can find a silver snuff box in good used condition for around $60. (Pewter or brass for half that.) People carry phones and watches around all the time that cost multiples of that!

And I don’t think any snuffbox would do a very good job at keeping snuff fresh for 5 days - they are designed to be refilled every day or every other day. If that’s important to you, you might want to stick with a smash box or similar.

And another Etsy coin box seller. A few members here have bought these ones and were happy. I think the only issue is they’re a little small for pinching from.

@barredbenny I will definitely keep a look out for some used snuffboxes on Ebay also what’s a smash box as I’ve never heard of one @dan11 yeah I saw that this vendor sells these types of coin boxes and as for the one you linked I very much like these ones as well do you how well these keep snuff or are they pretty much like 1 or 2 days worth of snuff and that’s it kind of box

@Lou_Bliss       Ari D Norman      in London, UK make new silver snuff boxes.

There have been  some pictures and comments here on Snuffhouse, a couple of years ago.

If you take a look at ebay UK,   item  number      272296311539  you can see the sort of thing they make.

This one is 148 English pounds.

Better still, have a look at their website.

Cheers.

Smashboxes are very inexpensive plastic containers. Like this: https://snuffstore.co.uk/smash-box-white-10g-p-1814.html

I swear by those smash boxes. They work really well for coarser, moister snuffs. Not 100% airtight, but they will hold the moisture for a couple of days I’ve found.

@Lou_Bliss Coins can make good boxes if they are large enough. I have one made to order by Coincrafts https://coincrafts.myshopify.com/  made from two crowns (pre-decimal 5 shilling pieces) which are 1.5" across and the box is 7/8" deep. It will hold the contents of a small Wilsons tin.
