Estate pipe maintenance

Ok, so i dont have much spare cash, and i recently got a new (estate) pipe to take up smoking again, and have been using it in the meantime. the cake seems fine, its about 1mm at the moment, but here is my list of issues- -pretty scorched rim. i dont mind the look, i simply want this pipe to last me and be of decent service over looking like it fell from the heavens. would this be an issue, and how would i go about sorting it? -its in dire need of polishing, briar treatment. how would i go about this, and what works best? i dont have access to power tools. - it could taste a bit better. im assuming a quick alcohol cleanse and maybe a sweetener would fix this though.

If you don’t mind the scorching let it be. but if you want you can use a sanding block with 150 grit then switch to 220 grit and final with 400 grit. I use Paragon & Halcyon II pipe wax. As for sweetening I just use mouthwash but if you have a favorite flavor hard liquor; use that. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GZszsnKpWqk

For polishing I like to use a Dunhill Pipe Cloth, within seconds it makes pipes look brand new and one cloth lasts quite a while. http://www.smokingpipes.com/accessories/pipe-supplies/moreinfo.cfm?product\_id=84864

cant seem to get any of that stuff over here in the uk, so im deciding between dunhill bowl polish and savinelli pipe polish. i already have savinelli stem polish and it works pretty well, so might go for the savinelli. unless anyone knows a UK source for paragon.

You can get Renaissance Wax in the UK. Pretty much the same thing and very effective too.

isnt that for furniture/metal restoration/protection? safe for pipes?

http://walkerbriarworks.com/ Walker Briar Works offers products to keep your pipe bowls & stems lookin’ great. I personally use the Stem restore kit. The Carnuba wax that is included also works great for keeping bowls lookin’ great. I’m not affiliated with them other than being a satisfied customer.

so im after wax for my new pipe, just to be sure, will the renaissance wax do the trick?

Nice to read that there are experienced pipe-restorers on this forum! I buy a lot of used pipes myself, clean and wax them my self which is a nice hobby on its own and with that little time extra spend with the pipe it becomes even more joy to have that first smoke with it…it’s really ‘my’ pipe so to speak. Good luck! BTW there are many restoration clips on youtube if you’re searching

Get a pipe retort. only 20 dollars and worth it if you buy more estate pipes. easiest method of cleaning what the last smoker left in your pipe.
