Neftóbak

I am with @matadorman completely … nefto(Blek) … it is downright Animal Farm … @Xander, i promise, man, that stuff is NOT good — for sniffing or snusing … i tried it … “earthy” is one thing … horse dung is another. YMMV … BUT … as an edit … one can never tell what one will like, right? I was just seconding MatadorMan … if you do try it, let us know how it goes …

How could you possibly take that out of context? I really meant it.

I want to try it for a few reasons. Exotic, foreign, organic.

@Xander Well the problem is, that if I want some snuff sent here the police would get a hold of it and never give it to me.Because it’s illegal here in Iceland…

I’d freaking love to try some more horseshit snuff. Horseshit is one of my favorite flavors. I’m not joking either, and would try some for the same reasons as @cstokes4 and @Xander!

I prefer cow dung! ( not joking either).

Farm animal dung flavor in general is good.

@MatadorMan: I have a hard time beleiving that Neftobak is legal yet any other snuff is not. I can beleive that shops may not be able to sell them, but personal use is surely beyond the law. Surely you can import from an online store for personal use? Perhaps you may have to pay a duty, but I can’t believe it would be confiscated. We’ve has Icelandic members here before, and I don’t recall them having issues. Perhaps @Toque or @MrSnuff could shed some light on wether or not they’ve sent to Iceland before, or do so regularly.

@Xander: It really depends on how good Icelandic customs are. As I understand it, all online tobacco sales are illegal in Iceland, so there’s the possibility of being prosecuted for it if it’s caught. Depending on the fines I might give a it a go and see if I could slip a couple through. It’s worth noting that Swedish snus is not only illegal to buy or sell, but also possession and use is illegal in Iceland. I imagine it wouldn’t be too difficult to slip small orders through, but you never know how good customs is in another country. There’s a British guy doing a jail term in the Middle East because customs found .003g of pot on him as he went through the airport on his layover. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-512815/Briton-jailed-years-Dubai-customs-cannabis-weighing-grain-sugar-shoe.html Better watch out if Dubai starts licensing those scanners to other country’s customs. If they can detect .003g of cannabis fast enough that it doesn’t cause delays in a major international airport, I’m think USPS would be able to notice some of our 1kg+ snuff orders coming in.

Don’t put too much faith in what you read in the daily fail. Bad for the blood pressure.

@bish777 That was for real. It was all over the news when it happened, ridiculous and scary at the same time. I don’t partake in marijuana myself, but I hang about with plenty of people who do. I’ll be avoiding the UAE if I ever need to travel to Asia. Would a similar story from the Leftypendent persuade you? http://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/middle-east/tv-executive-faces-jail-in-dubai-for-barely-visible-cannabis-speck-785595.html

I’ll wait to read it in the metro!

If you can’t decide which paper to read, read mine online: The HowdyDave International Review http://www.crayon.net/read.cgi?howdydave@msn.com My philosophy is that every paper has an angle – so if you read it from EVERY angle, you might get the straight dope. Who knows… maybe only the Huddersfield Examiner or Bangkok Post got it right!

Icelandic tobacco laws are strict. Inline sales or mail shipments of any kind are illegal. Smokeless tobacco is illegal if it is meant to be consumed orally. The way they determine this is by moisture content. Most snus is 50-51% moisture by content. Anything with (I think) 40% or less moisture content is considered “dry” nasal snuff and it’s legal for purchase. Neftobak is as moist as you can legally purchase in Iceland and most people add water to the container, shake it up, and use it as snus. Very few people use it nasally. “Real” dry snuff is virtually unheard of in Iceland due to their strict import/export laws. Tobacco purchased in Iceland has to be manufactured in Iceland, and there’s just two manufacturers of smokeless tobacco. They only manufacture Neftobak and a brand of plug tobacco that is marketed as “smoking” tobacco but which most people use as a chewing tobacco. Though it’s pretty unlikely, Police in Iceland are allowed to arrest and fine you if you walk around with tobacco in your mouth. They can also arrest you for possessing pornography. And it’s a 6 month prison sentence if you sell a pornographic item, like a naked picture of Madonna. Hell, until recently it was illegal to own a dog in Iceland!

Ok, now officially removing Iceland from the list of places I would ever consider living…

@Xander:Well the snuff which is illegal is the fine-grain ones which “Íslenskt Neftóbak” is not. This is what I found about Snuff on the icelandic law wabsite:“Bannað er að flytja inn, framleiða og selja fínkornótt neftóbak og allt munntóbak”.Translation:It is prohibited to import, manufacture or sell fine-grained snuff and chewing tobacco at all.

Besides, Íslenskt Neftóbak has to have the right size of grains for it to be legal. So in Iceland we only have one brand of nasal tobacco…

Thank you for the information/clarification. However, in snuff (even true and proper nasal snuff) there are a wide variety of grains. The Indian white snuffs represent an extremely fine grain. The American Scotches and the Irish Toasts are the next two levels up. At the other end of the spectrum are the English rappees, German schmalzlers, and ultmately the South African gwayis. I myslef and most members here use a variety of types ranging from very fine to very course. I strongly suspect that Nefotóbak is not nearly as coarse as the most coarse of those I have mentioned. Therefore, by the letter of the law there must be some texture ofsnuff that can be imported. Of course that would require your customs inspectors to examine and measure the grains of any imported tins. Most laws that I have read, and I assume your legal system works this way, applies very specific language and this law may not apply to individual citizens, but only to businesses. Technically I do not “import” snuff when I buy it from overseas, which is how 95% of my snuff is purchaced. Anyway, I hope you can change the law, or find a way around it. You are missing out on one of the greatest pleasures known to humanity.

Just to throw in an update for those interested, a friendly fellow on SnusOn procured a 10g Toque tin filled with Neftóbak for me. Took a rather circuitous route, Iceland to NY via Seattle, but it got here. I’d place it around Makla Ifrikia in strength. In the nose, it reminds me of NTSU black or Babaton. In the mouth it has a taste of rather strong black coffee, quite bitter at first. Perhaps it would hold up better with a bit of water added to it, but I just took it as is, and loaded up two click’s worth in an Icetool, and it’s only just starting to run after 30 minutes. I’d certainly be interested in acquiring one of the larger drums, I believe they’re 250g. Could see myself using it fairly often, but it’s certainly not a taste everyone will love.

This is very interesting. I will get cracking on this and see if I can get hold of some. Dave
