"Organic"/"Natural" Snuff ?

Is there such a thing ? I’ve been wondering about the ingredients in our snuffs aside from the “proprietary” stuff . Is there an ingredients list anywhere ? I’m curious.

Ingredients of some popular snuffs:

Ingredients of American snuffs:

Contrary to the expected, even “Natural” (“Plain”) snuffs contain alkalis and/or salt. To my best knowledge, not a single of all currently industrially made snuffs is made of organic tobacco.

However, it can be easily from organically grown tobacco, natural homemade alkalizers (wood ashes, potash or slaked lime) and kosher salt, using organic herbs for flavouring.

This online store has nice assortment of organic whole leaf tobacco: https://www.leafonly.com/search/organic

For small experiments, some organic and natural/additive-free RYO’s might fit the bill.
Manitou, Natural American Spirit and Mac Baren RAW are the most popular (i.e. widely available) ones, as well as Poschl Pueblo and Pueblo Burley.

Interesting.

Who would produce a snuff with the least amount of ingredients in it then?

A couple of Poschl schmalzlers - A Brasil and Perlesreuter - contain only tobacco and paraffin oil.

Then follows “natural”/“plain”/“white” snuffs (WoS Plain, Neffa Ifrikia, White Elephant etc) and non-scented toasts (F&T HDT, SG Irish D, WoS Irish No.22 etc). The ingredients are not disclosed, but there’s obviously an alkalizer (and probably salt in “natural”/“plain” types) next to water and tobacco. So, only 3 or 4 ingredients.

Bernard’s Civette is tobacco, water, paraffin oil and salt.

Thank you so much !

Oh, I forgot to ask if you knew about the ingredients for “Babaton Blue”?

Cheers, mate.

I guess there are 3 to 5 ingredients in it. Besides tobacco and water, there’s an alkalizer, that’s for sure. And possibly a tiny amount of salt and a splash of ammonia water?

why are you searching for “organic-natural” snuff without alkalizers in the first place?

I am interested in finding more good natural snuffs with natural alkalizers. I do not know why that would be weird. I do not like to ingest a lot of chemicals in general.

As  far as I understand, most (if not all) Amazonian rapes (e with the accute accent) are natural snuffs, made of rustica and wood/bark ashes. They are very strong, most of the nicotine is freebased. This study contain very interesting data, including that on hazardous constituents:

https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5704902/
(tldr: tested samples of tribal snuffs contained more free nicotine and less hazardous stuff than commercially manufactured ones).

Just beware that some of them might contain other herbs as well. If you ever consider procuring any, I advise contacting the seller and making sure there are no illicit substances (psychotropics) in the composition. Here’s one example of rape with psychotropics: https://braziliantobaccosnuffs.com/product/rape-ayohuasca/. Ordering smallest amount of powder like this would qualify as a criminal offense (drug trafficking) in my country.

Some Rosinski are natural, too - those paraffin-free, non-mentholated ones.
